Lady Panthers clinch playoff berth

The Johnston girls basketball team picked up back-to-back wins, topping Wheeler 55-49 last week at home then Barrington 52-43 on the road. The win against Wheeler clinched a Division I playoff berth.

The Lady Panthers won a thriller again Wheeler, coming back to win after trailing by 18 points in the second half.

Johnston would piece together a late 28-4 run to take the lead, and was led by forward Sarah Bandoma who scored 10 points and collected 16 rebounds.

Caroline Howe added 15 points, 14 coming in the second period, while Kaylin Zalewski added 16 points as well. Tori Viau also scored 10 points for Johnston.

Viau went off in the Panthers’ win over Barrington on Monday afternoon, leading the team with 17 points scored, including five 3-pointers. Zalewski chipped in 14 points, while Howe added eight.

The Panthers improved to 8-7 in league play and 8-8 overall. Johnston hosted East Greenwich on Wednesday evening, but the results were not available at press time.
