Panthers win on Senior Night

Posted

The Northmen from North Smithfield took a trip to Johnston on Tuesday, where they were set to face off against the Johnston High School Panthers on their senior night. Johnston dominated from start to finish, pulling of the 67-37 win.

The Panthers wasted no time pulling ahead early in this one. Senior captain Jay Canton lead the Panthers with 12 points. Anthony Tavares also scored 12 points of his own as he was able to get it going behind the arc.

Johnston’s big men dominated the boards all night, allowing the offense many second-chance scoring opportunities, which they took advantage of. Aldrick Veradones contributed a team-high 10 point for North Smithfield. After going down 15, the Northmen did not fair much better in the second half, as Johnston continued to pour it on.

The dominating performance by Johnston’s big men seemed to be the difference in the game. The Panthers would go on to win. Johnston will look to keep it going in the playoffs, improving to 16-4 after the win.
