In support of Bayside sewers

To the Editor:

We would like to express our support for the Bayside Sewer project.

We have been waiting many years to be able to tie-in to the city sewer system and we are glad that this project will finally get started.

We appreciate the efforts of our Councilman Ed Ladouceur who throughout his time in office has worked tirelessly to bring sewers to this area and fought hard to keep the costs down for us. We are equally appreciative to Mayor Picozzi for securing the lowest price possible for us and getting this project started.

Are we looking forward to the road construction and hassles and inconveniences that will come along with it? Of course not.

Are we looking forward to having to pay for this? Of course not.

However, we realize the importance of this project and that it is necessary and we feel it will be money well spent for a permanent solution to managing waste and lessening bay pollution.

Back in 1994, voters in the City of Warwick approved a bond to expand the sewer system citywide and it has been an ongoing project throughout the city since then. Knowing this, we have been preparing over the years and we’ve set money aside for this project because we know that eventually our septic system will need to be replaced, which will be a costly upfront expense and will need to be maintained on a regular basis. We are thankful we will now finally be able to tie into the city system; which we can pay for in installments over many years.

We attended the sewer authority meeting last Thursday to get further information on this project. The meeting was provided to have questions answered for residents and to obtain more information; but unfortunately some residents chose not to listen and turned it in to a gripe session and disruptive shouting match. We were appalled at the way some people spoke to the mayor, our councilman, and the representatives from WSA.
