Take a lunch break and enjoy Sam’s delicious meals, then shop some more! ‘Tis the season to treat yourself!


Silver Screenings

Fly your broom on over to the Pilgrim Senior Center to enjoy some spooktacular Halloween movies on Fridays at 1pm throughout the month of October! The schedule is as follows: Oct. 7 Practical Magic, Oct. 14 The Shining, Oct. 21 The Addams Family, Oct. 28 Underworld: Blood Wars, and on Halloween, a special viewing of Hocus Pocus! Join together in the lobby, snack on some popcorn, and enjoy your favorite thrillers and classics!


Need Christmas Help?

Families residing in Coventry, Cranston, Scituate, Warwick and West Warwick in need of Christmas help may apply for assistance from Little Free Pantry in Warwick by Nov. 26. Our goal is to provide one to three items per child: value of your gifts range from $5 to $35 dollars as this is a helping hand. We do our best to help as many as we can, we do not guarantee help. The application process is simple. Please send us a message with the following information.

  1. Your Name, a picture/copy of a recent utility bill in your name (your photo ID will be required at pick up) please block out account numbers, we just need to verify address and name. We can not accept people signing up for others, your Facebook name must be similar to your real name.
  2. For each child up to age 17, Child name (first name only), age, gender and wish list or a list of likes (of mixed value max $35 per item). You must provide a list because we can not fill requests without it. Please note we will consider children over age 17 with special needs, please PM us in regards to our requirements. No requests for gift cards/tickets, as well as any video games/systems (exception would be inexpensive headphones and accessories ) will be honored.
  3. List of other programs you have signed up for, or intend to sign up for.
  4. Due to dishonesty about children, we now require birth certificate at pick up, your ID must match one of the parents listed on the birth certificate. Exception for those with legal custody paperwork will be required. This for visual inspection in person only!

While we never ask for income verification and reserve the right to ask for additional information for children as you may only sign up your children that live with you full time. Our pick up location is in Warwick, near RT 37. We provide this information when pick up times are arranged. This is borrowed space afforded to us by a local business in which we are allowed to use after business hours.


Clouds Hill Museum Yard Sale

Clouds Hill Museum will host a yard sale on Oct. 22 from 8 a.m. to noon. There will be electronics, books, furniture, ceramics, frames, art and more. The event will occur rain or shine. The mansion is located at 4157 Post Road, Warwick.


Veterans Day Lunch

The Pilgrim Senior Center will honor our Veterans at their noontime meal on Nov. 10. They will also have the Missing Man Table Ceremony presented by the William Shields Post 43 commander Jake Holm. Lunch will be at no cost to any veteran. You must have a reservation to attend, so please call Christina at 468-4078 by Nov. 2 to choose your meal option.


WCFA Winter Market

The Warwick Center for the Arts is gearing up for its annual Winter Market, which is designed as a festive, artful, and unique shopping experience. The event will be held at the historic Kentish Armory in Apponaug Village from Nov. 26 (Small Business Saturday), through Dec. 17. There will be a wide variety of handmade gift items available for purchase that range from greeting cards, to toys, jewelry, ornaments, oil paintings, and more! On the Track to a Train Show

Rhode Island Model Train Expo sponsored by the Little Rhody Division of the National Model Railroad Association will be held Sunday, Nov. 6 from 10am to 3pm at the Guy L. Lefebvre Community Center, 1277 Main St., Coventry. The show features operating layouts in N, HO, O, and G scales. There will be select vendor tables. Tickets are $6 for adults and children under 12 and Scouts in uniform are free. There is a $20 maximum per family.


Chopstick Auction

The Oakland Beach Volunteer Women’s Auxiliary will have their annual Chopstick Auction at 645 Oakland Beach Ave in Warwick on Oct. 15. Doors open at noon, the auction begins at 1 p.m. We have over 123 items/baskets ranging in value from $50 to $100. We have things like comforters, Swarovski jewelry, liquor baskets, gift cards to stores and restaurants, gravity chairs, UGG slippers, etc. A chopstick for $10 will get you in ALL the drawings. They can be purchased at the door.

Kitchen will be open with a limited menu for purchase along with a cash bar. Must be 18 or older. Please no children.

2nd Annual “No More Hunger” Walk

A walk to call attention to food insecurity and raise funds for local food pantries will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15. Last year over $10,000 was raised. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at St Mark’s Episcopal Church (111 West Shore Road, Warwick).  Many local groups and churches will be participating.   Any interested churches, organizations, and individuals are invited and encouraged to join in. Youth Art Classes

Warwick Center for the Arts Youth classes will begin this week. Beginning Saturday Oct. 8 (running six weeks), young artists are invited to will famous works of art and create their own original masterpiece each week in a Mixed Media class. Beginning Friday Oct. 7, learn how to use color, line, shape, and form to make characters and imaginary worlds. Materials include pencil, ink, colored pencil, marker, watercolor paint and a little imagination in a Drawing Stories (illustration) class. For more info, visit https://warwickcfa.org/.


GFWC Warwick Women’s Club

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Warwick Women’s Club will be meeting on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 6:30 pm at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center, 821 West Shore Road, Warwick (big white house). The club meets on the second Tuesday of every month from September to May.

The Warwick Women’s Club is a civic/community-minded club which provides funds for local organizations such as the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center and provides services and support for organizations such as the Norwood Boys’ and Girls’ Club, RI Community Food Bank, Project Undercover, FRIENDS WAY, Amenity Aid and House of Hope.  There are many other activities that the club is involved in throughout the year including Pinwheels for Prevention of Child Abuse, thank you cards and Valentine cards for our veterans, and activities relating to domestic abuse.  Anyone wishing to attend this meeting, please call Carol at 738-1279. NAMI-RI: Registration Open for Family-to-Family course

The Rhode Island chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness is now accepting registration for our next virtual Family-to-Family course which begins Oct. 17. This is a free, eight-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. It is a designated evidenced-based program, which means that research shows that the program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to a person with a mental health condition. NAMI-Rhode Island’s Family-to-Family course is taught by trained family members who have lived experience with a loved one, and includes presentations, discussions and interactive exercises.

Fall Craft Show

Trick or Treat yo’ self at the Fall Vendor Craft Event held on Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oakland Beach Fire Barn (645 Oakland Beach Ave)! Featuring over 20 local vendors, as well as food, drinks, raffles and more. Wear your Halloween costume, have your face painted, and strike a pose at the Halloween display! It will be a fa-boo-lous time!


Chess: A Swedish Musical

The Rhode Island Swedish Heritage Association is sponsoring “Chess: A Swedish Musical”. A story of a chess tournament between two grandmasters- one Russian and one American. A tale full of drama and romance accompanied by music from Benny Anderson and ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus. Soup for the Soul Benefit Concert

Come together and enjoy an afternoon of live music to help raise funds for the homeless and those in need in our community.  Donations are gratefully accepted. Blessing of the Animals

The Rev. William Sterrett will conduct the Blessing of the Animals on the front steps of the Edgewood Congregational Church, on Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. at 1788 Broad St. in Cranston. Church members, neighbors, guests and anyone who would like to participate in this traditional ceremony are invited to bring their pets. The church welcomes all people and offers its space for several nonprofit, educational, and social organizations, including AA, Boy Scouts and other religious congregations.


14th Annual SENE Film Festival

Boo and View

Join Garden City Center for a Halloween movie night on Oct. 14 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The movie (Monsters Inc.) will be shown at the center’s gazebo. At 4 p.m. there will be Halloween crafts, games and snacks. Around 6 p.m., the movie will start. Tickets are $5 per child and proceeds will go directly to Adoption Rhode Island. Young Musicians Scholarship

The Music on the Hill scholarship directly supports the study of classical music performance. Awards will be disbursed directly to the winner’s designated instructor, ensemble program, summer opportunity, school, conservatory or college music fee. The first prize includes $400 and a performance opportunity in Music on the Hill’s 2023 festival. The second prize is $200. Applicants must be Rhode Island residents between ages 13 and 18. This scholarship includes all instruments and voice. Chamber groups may apply together and share the prize. The application includes a four to eight minute recorded video audition. Hoxsie School Fundraiser

The Hoxsie School PTO will hold a spaghetti and meatball dinner fundraiser on Oct. 15 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Shields Post (662 West Shore Road). Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for kids and free for kids under the age of three. The event will include a 50/50 raffle as well as basket raffles. Plan on the Spooktacular at Conimicut village

The annual Conimicut Spooktacular is scheduled for Oct. 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is held in the center of the village with games in the Friendsway parking lot, a pumpkin display and scavenger hunt set in Donovan Park. Folks are encouraged to carve a pumpkin to display for the event. Carved pumpkins should be dropped off at Friendsway lot between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on the day of the event (volunteers will be there setting up for the event) and can be retrieved after 8 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help set up starting at 10 a.m. and to help run the games starting around 5:30 p.m. Those looking to assist can call Sue Hay at 529-4934 or email Dolores Kielau at DKshopper@cox.net with questions.


Open Juried Exhibit

The Warwick Center for the Arts is holding its 36th annual RI Open Juried Exhibit from Oct. 1 to Nov. 12 at 3259 Post Road, Warwick. The show consists of a variety of media and subject matter and is juried by Paula Martiesian. Martiesian has exhibited extensively around RI and is an award-winning advocate for the arts and artists. Go Birding this Fall

Join the Audubon this fall for morning bird walks. There will be a bird walk at Hunt’s Mills in East Providence on Oct. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The cost is $5 for members and $7 for non-members and is for those ages 12 and older – advance registration is required. There will also be an annual Hawk Watching trip on Oct. 22 at Napatree Point. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members and is for teens and adults – advance registration is required. October Paint-Out

Warwick’s Clouds Hill Museum in conjunction with the Warwick Center for the Arts will host a paint-out this fall on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All artists working in any medium will fall in love with the setting. Pre-registration is required and can be completed at www.warwickcfa.org.


EG Art Club Exhibit

The East Greenwich Art Club will have its annual exhibit of members’ artwork at the Cranston Public Library (140 Sockanosset Cross Road) from Oct. 1 to Oct. 28. Pumpkins Are Coming

Get your pumpkins at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church! Pumpkins arrive on Oct. 8, and sales begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 9 and will continue through Oct. 31. Oktoberfest at Little Rhody Vasa Park

There will be an Oktoberfest at Little Rhody Vasa Park, located at 10 Boswell Trail in Foster, RI (right off Rte. 6) on Oct. 16. Dinner will be served from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with an accordion player (Dan Mackowiak) from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and German dancers at 2:30 p.m.! The dinner ($18 for adults and $7 for children) consists of your choice of Pork Schnitzel or Bratwurst and Knockwurst, German potato salad, Spaetzle, red cabbage, Sauerkraut, and apple cake. Poet Presentation

Nonfiction@Brown lecture series presents “Diana Khoi Nguyen, Lyrical Prose, and the Intimacy of a Sentence.” Poet and multimedia artist Diana Khoi Nguyen presents her work on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. at Brown University, PVD (location TBA go.brown.edu/nonfiction_now). Capturing the Past Plein Air

The East Greenwich Art Club is having a Plein Air event, “Capturing the Past,” at the New England Wireless & Steam Museum (1300 Frenchtown Road, East Greenwich 02818) on Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All artists are invited to spend the day painting or drawing or choose whatever medium to create a work of art. The building has historical buildings, industrial machines and communication equipment.  A $10 donation to the museum is payable on the day of the event. Bring your own lunch. Abstract Intuitive Painting

Warwick Center for the Arts will host “Abstract Intuitive Painting” on the first Thursday of October, November and December from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Individuals will learn to select colors intuitively and apply various textures and marks to a wood panel using a variety of materials to create an 11x14 abstract acrylic painting on a wood panel. Free Teacher Assistant Training Program

The Comprehensive Community Action Plan is holding a free, virtual teacher assistant training program from Oct. 17 to Oct. 27. Individuals must be 18 to 24 years old, have a high school diploma or GED and a clean BCI. The classes run from noon to 3 p.m. Individuals, if eligible, can get paid to attend class. Library looking for podcast geeks

Are you a fan of listening to podcasts? Do you have a lot of technical skills you would like to apply to a great community resource? The library has its own weekly podcast, Warwick Radio Online, and is building a team to help run it.

Warwick Radio Online (https://warwicklibrary.org/warwick-radio-online-4) highlights the wonderful things that make Warwick great from community resources to opportunities for entertainment to the background and history of the city. They are looking for folks who would like to be technicians to operate the recording studio and edit episodes of the show, on-air talent to serve as hosts of episodes, or managers to supervise and schedule podcast episodes. Those interested can serve in one or all of these roles. Tasks could include recording content in the studio, hosting/co-hosting, interviewing, scriptwriting, editing sound, and experience with Apple computers and the GarageBand audio-editing software. Experience would be helpful, but the library can also help you learn the skills you would need to work on the podcast.

Volunteer with Westbay Community Action

Do you have a passion and desire to make a difference in your community? Westbay Community Action’s ‘Marketplace,’ the second largest food pantry in RI, needs volunteers who are interested in a fun and rewarding experience working with like-minded people. Volunteers 17 years or older will be stocking shelves, unpacking trucks and helping individuals with picking up their food. Bowlers Needed

The Warwick Men’s Church Bowling League is in need of some new bowlers. The league was established in 1951 and is still bowling duckpin at the Meadowbrook Bowling Alley in Warwick. The group bowls on Tuesday nights from September until April. A weekly fee of $15 provides three games of bowling, small events and a banquet at the end of the season with cash prizes. Take Off Pounds Sensibly

Take off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) #38 in East Greenwich has returned to having meetings every Thursday morning at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church (99 Pierce St., East Greenwich) at the lower level. The meeting will be ongoing. Weigh-in begins at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting begins at 10 a.m.

Collectable Car Show

Tri City Elks Lodge 1915 W. Shore Rd. Warwick presents a Custom Collectible Car Show on Thursdays at 5 p.m. around the back of the lodge. Bring your auto and show it off or just come and enjoy the night. There will be music and food for sale and the Tiki Bar will be open for beverages! Additionally, Tuesdays are the lodge’s Jeep Night at 5 p.m.  Jeeps and 4x4’s of all shapes and sizes are welcome. The Tiki Bar will be open; food by PB&J’s will be available to purchase.


Old Warwick Grange 41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, nonprofit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values. It’s a place where the whole family can go and grow. Help us to help others.

Homecoming Celebration

St. Francis Xavier Academy Alumnae Association (SXA) announced its Homecoming celebration will be Oct. 23 with an 11 a.m. mass at St. Timothy Church, Warwick, followed immediately by lunch at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. This year, due to prior Covid restrictions, the classes of 1970, 71 and 72 will be honored.  Scholarships are announced during lunch.  Alumnae may sponsor students for scholarships to Catholic High Schools. Hearts for Hospice

Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice (VNH&H) is asking for individuals to support their hospice programs by giving $20 or more to their Hearts for Hospice campaign. People can dedicate their gift to a loved one who is always in their heart; all dedications will be listed on the organization’s website. Calling All Cribbage Players

Do you play cribbage? If so, consider joining a small group of cribbage players from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Friday who meet and play at the East Greenwich Community Center located on Pierce Street in East Greenwich. The Rhode Island Blood Center is in need of blood. Individuals wishing to donate must book an appointment at the donation center; walk-ins are only accepted if safe distancing allows at the person’s time of arrival. Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Come join the “Rocky Point Pacers” for a walk around Rocky Point every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9 a.m., weather permitting. They meet at the gate on Rocky Point Avenue.


Be Kind RI

Be Kind RI is a new program that connects volunteers to their neighbors across RI through text alerts to coordinate food deliveries from grocery stores and food pantries. To sign up go to www.BeKindRI.org. Volunteers must be 18 or older and undergo our background check. Be Kind RI is open to those in RI experiencing COVID-19 risk factors including seniors 65+, anyone with underlying health conditions, those in quarantine or isolation, anyone experiencing a lack of childcare, and those who would otherwise experience difficulty in obtaining food. Meals on Wheels in Need of Volunteers

Meals on Wheels of RI is in immediate need of volunteers for its Home-Delivered Meal Program in Warwick. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program helps homebound seniors remain healthy, safe and happy at home. Citizenship Prep Classes at WPL

Prepare for the U.S. Naturalization Interview with Citizen Preparation classes at the Warwick Public Library. Practice citizenship vocabulary, learn the necessary civics content, and work on interview skills using the N-400 application form. Classes meet on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. starting Sept. 25. Sign up at the library. For more information, call (401) 455-8041. Get a Job Thursdays

We Make RI, an organization that provides free manufacturing training, is hosting a series of job fairs every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at their offices at 200 First Ave. in Cranston. We Make RI offer job seekers a chance to meet with employers, get career counseling, resume help and more. Some employers include Swissline Precision, Admiral Packaging, KB Surfaces, Warwick Hanger and Hitachi Cable.
