Gaspee Days Starts this Weekend

May 27, Plant Sale, The Westbay Farm is having their annual plant sale on Saturday, May 27, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., 1351 Centerville Rd. in Warwick. Come get local seedlings at great prices! The Westbay Community Action, has been instrumental in aiding those in the Warwick area who are experiencing the challenges of food insecurity and a cut in funds to the SNAP program and other important programs. Your purchase at the plant sale will help to fund the farm which provides over 20,000 pounds of high-quality fruits and vegetables to the community. May 30, Photographic Society of RI Competition #5
The Photographic Society of RI will be holding its Competition #5 at the Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave., Warwick, on May 30, at 7 – 8:30 p.m.  Members will be competing in Black & White Prints, Color Prints, Digital and Slides. June 3, Free Car Seat Check & Touch a Truck Event 
On Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., South County Health will host a free car seat check and touch-a-truck event. Members of the South Kingstown Police Department, trained in Child Passenger Safety, will provide free car seat installation checks. This is a convenient opportunity for community members to ensure that they are using the right car seat, with the right installation, for their children’s ages and sizes. The Rhode Island Gay Men’s Chorus is presenting their Spring Concert series, “Are We There Yet?”  at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 2115 Broad St, Cranston on Friday and Saturday, June 9 & 10, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 11, at 3 p.m. This concert will take you on a “road trip” from New York to San Francisco!  So don’t worry about the price of gas, just fill your tank with music that only the RIGMC can provide!  Tickets are $25.00 for General Admission, $20 for Seniors, $15 for Students with ID and Children 12 and under Free. The Kent Hospital Auxiliary is celebrating their 25th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, July 10, Luncheon served from 11 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.; shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. at Potowomut Golf Club, 439 Ives Rd, East Greenwich. $225/golfer.  We also have sponsorships ranging from $2,000 to $5,000; T signs for $175 and program ad availability (prices range from $150-$500). After golf there is a reception, dinner, awards, silent auction and raffles. This annual event has raised thousands of dollars for Patient Care Services at Kent Hospital. June 24, Strawberry Festival
Smith’s Castle, 55 Richard Smith Drive, North Kingstown, invites the public to celebrate their annual Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 24, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. This family friendly event will feature once again puppeteer Dan Butterworth, as well as pop singer Jesse Liam. Plenty of colonial games, activities, and crafts will be provided as well as pony rides for children. Vendors will be on-site, and they will be selling their famous strawberry shortcake as well as plants for the garden. A walk to call attention to food insecurity and raise funds for local food pantries  will be held on Saturday, October 14. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. Over $20,000 has been raised in the past two years. We are looking for volunteers that would like to help us plan and staff community events, organize hygiene product collection drives and raise funds for Amenity Aid.
