Hawks take 2nd at track states

The Rhode Island Interscholastic League Outdoor Track and Field State Championships were held last weekend at Brown University, and many locals made some noise on the state’s biggest stage.

Hendricken’s relay team of Kamalie Pemberton, Joel Felix, Jake Kopech and Jayden Falcone took second in the 400.

Pemberton later finished second in the 100 dash.

Hendricken’s Evan McGregor finished third in the 1,500 run, while teammate Nae’shaun Montgomery finished third in the triple jump. Hendricken’s Blessjoey Nyannah finished third in the shot put

McGregor finished fourth in the 800 run for the Hawks, while teammate Jacob Naiefeh took fourth in the 300 hurdles. Patrick Torres finished fourth in the high jump for the Hawks, while teammate Matt Steele took fourth in the triple jump. Hendricken’s Cam Chinn took fourth in the javelin.

Hayden Clare finished fifth in the 300 hurdles, while Hendricken’s team of Jack Moretta, Will Olsen, Elliot Gauvin and Andrew Frezza finished fifth in the 3,200. Hendricken’s Levi Wurster finished fifth in the triple jump.

Hendricken’s Xavier Wilkins finished sixth in the 200 dash, while teammate Troy Silvestri took sixth in the 3,000 run. Hendricken’s team of Kopech, Naiefeh, McGregor and Clare finished sixth in the 1,600. Steele finished sixth in the long jump for the Hawks, while Torres took sixth in the triple jump.

Nyannah later took sixth in the discus, while Kopech finished seventh in the 200 dash.

Kopech finished eighth in the 100 dash for the Hawks, while Wilson Jablonski took eighth in the 3,000 run. Jakob Reyes took eighth in the high jump for Hendricken.

The Hawks finished second overall as a team.

West’s relay team of Alex DelNigro, Nick DiFazio, Alonso Parker-Sharpe and Manny Soler finished fifth in the 400. DiFazio finished eighth in the 400 dash for West, while DelNigro finished seventh in the long jump.


GIRLS

Toll Gate’s Alison Pankowicz finished second in the 3,000 run, while Pilgrim’s Dasani Stewart took second in the triple jump. Stewart later finished fourth in the long jump

Johnston was led by Alysia Royal, who finished seventh in the 100 dash while teammate Taylor Powell took eighth. Milana Melvin finished seventh in the shot put for the Panthers.

West finished third as a team.

Cranston West’s relay team of Madison Alves, Lindsey Hobin, Mikaya Parente and Ailani Sutherland won the 400 in style, breaking the state record with an overall time of 47.64 seconds, topping the previous record of 47.90.

Sutherland would go on to win the 100 dash for the Falcons as well as the 200 dash, while East’s Bethanie Jean-Philippe won the javelin throw.

Hobin finished second in the 100 hurdles for West while Parente took second in the long jump. West’s Juliana Bucci took second in the discus, while Parente finished third in the 200 dash.

Alves later finished fourth in the 100 dash for West, while Maddison Dutra took fourth in the 1,500 run for East.

East’s relay team of Dutra, Zoe Catrambone, Stella Loezos and Madeline Baxter finished fifth in the 3,200. Parente took fifth in the 100, while Alves took fifth in the long jump.

Zoe Catrambone finished sixth in the 800 run for East. West’s relay team of Quiana Pezza, Stalia Biosse, Praise Mayson and Sutherland took sixth in the 1,600 relay. Pezza later took fifth in the triple jump.

West’s Pezza placed eighth in the 200 dash, while Hobin finished eighth in the 300 hurdles. Alves finished eighth in the pole vault for the Falcons, while teammate Sam Rosenfield took eighth in the shot put.
