Growing their knowledge of plants

Kindergarten through fifth grade children joined the Western Cranston Garden Club outside Central Library on June 8 to plant peonies in the library’s garden beds. Co-president Cheryl Celeste said the event was not only to beautify the area, but teach kids about planting, water culture and how to care for plants.

The event started with youth services librarian Elise Petrarca reading “Miguel’s Community Garden,” followed by the kids planting flowers.

Seven members of the Western Cranston Garden Club joined the gardening event on June 8. Celeste said the club has done similar gardening activities with Cranston Public School students and this was the first time the event has been held at the library. (Herald photos)
