Grinding into fall

Less than a week after the City Council approved $787,216 for the purchase of a grinder for use at the city’s compost station, the machine was delivered to Warwick. Mayor Frank Picozzi reasons the timing couldn’t be better as mountains of organic material from leaves to grass clippings, branches and even trees have collected at the station since the former grinder could no longer be repaired. With fall around the corner and yet more yard waste, the mayor dreaded the prospect of even higher mountains of material and the city being forced to pay to have it removed. After grinding, the material decomposes further before being screened and distributed as compost. Residents can pick up the compost for free at the station behind the Mickey Stevens Sports Complex.
