After rolling to a sweep over Warwick PAL in the RI Connie Mack Quarterfinals last week, Flood Ford Auto turned around and swept West Warwick in the semis to punch its ticket to this weekend’s state championship.

Flood took Game 2 over West Warwick 10-1 on Monday night. Chris Manzo got the win on the mound by pitching five innings and allowing just one run on three hits. Ben Picone pitched in relief and recorded four strikeouts.

Jay Pilderian would knock in three runs on a triple in the win while Mike Traupman and Gian Lepore also knocked in runs.

Flood took Game 1 by a 13-3 final on Sunday night at Bishop Hendricken. 

Will Mascena led Flood at the plate with two RBI while Matt Wellington collected two hits and two runs as well. Manzo also scored two runs in the win. Mason Broomfield earned the victory on the mound, throwing four innings and allowing two runs. 

Flood manager Bryan Leahey feels that his club is in a good spot heading into the championship, which will be a rematch of last year’s title series against Narragansett. Narragansett went on to win in three games.

“We definitely have a lot of momentum going in to the championship. Our pitching has been sharp and our defense has been holding us in there. Offensively, we keep getting the hits here and there and everyone has been stepping up and doing their job. We’ve just been capitalizing on other team’s mistakes, doing the little things. Everyone is connecting right now,” said Leahey.

After getting a first-round bye, Flood has also been able to earn some extra rest by not playing a third game to this point. 

“We’re getting contributions from everybody. We have 22 guys on our roster and it’s going to take all 22 of them coming through to get the job done of getting these next two wins. Rest for us has been huge, it has helped us be fresher, ready to go. Our guys have been doing what they’ve needed to do, getting the rest they need and making sure they can produce at the level that is helping us win,” Leahey said.

Leahey believes that sticking to their strengths will be the biggest key to getting some revenge on Narragansett, who also beat them in this year’s regular season meeting.

“(Narragansett is) a good team and hopefully we can come out and play our game, do what we do. They have quite a few returners and no slouch players, they have some really solid players. We have some veteran players that will carry us and hopefully we will have some young players step up,” said Leahey. “It’s just us going to our game plan. Getting good pitching, making the right plays, the offense doing what we do best, whether it is small ball, getting walks, trying to force errors. We need everyone to contribute.”

Game 1 will be at 6:30 p.m. at McCarthy Field in West Warwick on Thursday, with Game 2 being the same time and location on Friday. If needed, Game 3 will be played at McCarthy at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
