The Ferri Middle School wrestling team competed in the annual Rhode Island Principal's Committee on Athletics state wrestling championships this past weekend at the Cumberland Wellness Center. The Ferri wrestlers finished in seventh place in the team standings, out of 21 squads that attended, and three Jaguars took home gold medals. Jonathan Soto (96), Nicholas Martino (148) and Jason Juarez (170) captured first place in their respective weight classes. Two others also placed for Ferri, with Michael Mark Burgess (159) taking a silver medal and Carson Kenny (200) placing fourth. The tournament also included the 2011/2012 Futures Tournament for junior varsity wrestlers. Frank Ferruccio (89) grabbed first place, while Katelin Marandola (170) and Spensor Dunham (102) each took home bronze medals.

“The team did really well this season, especially considering we were missing several weight classes,” said coach Mario Nasisi. “The coaching staff is very proud of all the wrestlers and hope they continue to wrestle in the future.”
