The Labor Day weekend brought the Feast of Santa Maria Di Prata, which featured the best homemade Italian food in Rhode Island, entertainment and good family fun.

The Santa Maria Di Prata Society was started in 1984. Today, more than 30 some years, the group has continued its Labor Day weekend tradition with an annual neighborhood feast featuring homemade food, live bands and plenty of rides for children.

The society’s building on Walnut Grove Avenue flies the flags of both the United States and Italy year-round. Members range in age from 18 to 94. The group raises funds for those seeking medical treatment for cancer and donates to scholarships, St. Jude and other nonprofits.

On Sept. 4, the crowd at the feast enjoyed the musical talents of one of the Italian-American favorites, The Ambrosiani.
