Expensive commute

Craig Lachapelle lives close to the Harss station, 2912 Warwick Ave. at the intersection of Warwick Avenue at West Shore Road, which has some of the city’s lowest cost gasoline. But even at $3.99 a gallon on Monday, Lachapelle expects the drive to his job at Electric Boat in Gorton is going to cost him an additional $50 a week. How would he feel about embargoing Russian oil in response to the invasion of Ukraine if it means even higher prices at the pump? “We have plenty of oil,”Lachapelle said noting President Biden’s closure of the Keystone pipeline and other actions that have reduced the nation’s oil production. Lachapelle also owns a barbecue business, BAHBQ, that he anticipates will also feel the pinch of skyrocketing gas prices. Nonetheless, Lachapelle smiled as he filled up his truck…what else could he do? (Warwick Beacon photo)
