Daughter Robin travels from East Greenwich to East Providence to buy her Italian deli products and ready-packaged Italian dinners at the Italian Corner.
It is a much shorter trip from Edgewood or even Warwick on 95 North to195 East to the Warren/Barrington/Seekonk exit. The deli/restaurant sits on the hill at the corner of Warren Ave. and Boyd Ave., right when you get off the exit.
The Italian sandwiches are popular, with over two dozen to choose from, including the Grilled Focaccia Mortadella, made with imported Italian mortadella, pistachio provolone, lettuce and tomato. ($12.75)
The meats are displayed in the case and sliced fresh to order. Salami, cured coppa, Genoa salami, prosciutto, porchetta, capecolla, brresaola, sopressata, and other meats imported from Italy bring back memories for many native Italians. Prices range$10.75 to $14.25.
Wait till you see their display of cheeses!
Soups include Minestrone, pasta fagioli, lentil, and house made meat tortellini in chicken broth.
Salads include pasta pesto, mixed fresh green caprese, and their famous house made octopus salad.
Joyce is not an Italian chef, limited to heating up a can of Franco-American spaghetti, so we bought three ready packaged Italian dinners for two in the $14-$17 range and enjoyed all three: Pasticcio Venezian (Lasagna), Chicken Marsala, and Chicken Picata.
The sauce (gravy) on all three were perfectly season. The chicken was tender, as was the beef and pork in the lasagna.
The Pasta Pesto salad at $10.99/lb. made a nice addition to the meals.
We couldn’t leave without buying a home made zeppole ($4.99) and a package of gluten free almond cookies ($5.99).
If you want authentic Italian, it is worth the trip to East Providence. You can eat there or take out.
Open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 to 4:00 p.m.
Order on line at www.ItalianCorner-RI.com, or by calling 431-1737.
