(Jane Austen's Classic Love Story)

Joyce loved the latest adaptation of Jane Austen's classic love story, while I found it to be a bore.

We are introduced to the 21-year-old Emma Woodhouse, a matchmaker and a meddler in everyone's affairs who is said to be "handsome, clever and rich.” And that she is, as she serves as mentor to her close friend who hangs on her every word of advice.

There's lots of silly patter in this two-hour comedy of manners, played out in the proper English customs of the filthy rich in 19th century England.

Anya Taylor-Joy does make for a perfect Emma, always conniving in the affairs of the heart but avoiding them where she is involved. And then there is her friend, George Knightley (Johnny Flynn), who is the only one brave enough to challenge and scold her. You just know where their friendship s heading.

Lots of talk. Beautiful scenery. Good acting. All of which Joyce, the Romantic, loved. I was still bored.

Rated PG.
