Defending Biden an impossible task

To the Editor:

After reading the ProJo op-ed dribble from Froma Harrop (Sunday, Aug. 22), I think Ms. Harrop has traveled to a state which has legalized smoking marijuana in public … and she has imbibed.

Faced with an impossible task to defend President Biden and his administration on the way they are handling the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, Ms. Harrop blames members of the White House press corps for asking incisive questions of National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

One question which Ms. Harrop feels was inappropriate: “Will you publicly disclose what went wrong?” How dare a reporter ask such a question, especially since President Biden – in at least two public appearances – assured all of us that the U.S. exit from Afghanistan would be a smooth transition to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s government.

Ms. “Never Trump” Harrop is in a most unfortunate predicament. She must defend a president whose polling is cratering from bad domestic decisions such as massive illegal immigration at our southern border, which obviously contributes to the national COVID-19 crisis; abdication of the mid-moderate center of the Democrat Party to the far-left progressives and socialists; burgeoning inflation growth at a double-digit annual rate; trillions of tax-funded legislative proposals at a time when hundreds of billions still remain from 2020 congressional appropriations which have yet to be spent; and now, Mr. Biden’s first critical foreign policy test, which appears doomed as a major blunder with serious geopolitical consequences.
