On Nov. 29, Cranston Cares and Cranston Police held a toy drive at the Park Theatre and Event Center to benefit local families in Cranston.
By 6 p.m., the stage and most of the floor in front of it was covered with toys, games, bikes, scooters and other miscellaneous items designed to bring joy to children during this holiday season.
Cranston Cares President, Justin Erickson, wanted to make sure the toys would be donated to the children and families in Cranston.
“We have (unfortunately), too many families that need help. We want to do whatever we can to assure these kids have smiles and fun for Christmas,” he said.
Erickson was proud to say that through donations, they were able to shop with $5,000.
“We are beyond humbled and grateful at the level of generosity shown to us this year. We hope to bring joy to as many kids as possible,” he said.
All donations were going to be divided between the Marines’ Toys for Tots program and the holiday party hosted by Cranston Cares and Cranston Police Cares a few days later.
The room itself was filled with friends and neighbors. Holiday music was pouring out of the speakers, and families enjoyed the food and atmosphere of giving. Santa and Mrs. Claus were posing for pictures.
CCAP had made CPD Cares and Cranston Cares aware that they had 50 families that would be in attendance at the holiday party.
