The New England Newspaper and Press Association honored several Beacon Communications writers Saturday at the organization’s annual Better Newspaper Competition. Reporter Jessica Botelho won third place for health reporting; reporter Jen Cowart won two third place awards, for education reporting and reporting on religious issues; publisher John Howell won third place for personality photo; reporter Kim Kalunian won second place for human interest feature story; sports editor William Geoghegan won two second place awards, for sports column and sports story; and Geoghegan and assistant sports editor Kevin Pomeroy together won second place for sports page or section.
