Cranston is once again well-represented on the roster of the Rhode Island College women’s tennis team, as natives Jenna Lisi, Lauren Macera and Serena Bobola are suiting up this fall for the Anchorwomen.

Lisi has been the undisputed standout for the RIC squad, competing at the top of the order in singles and doubles, going unbeaten in both disciplines thus far while dropping only nine games.

The La Salle product claimed each of her singles matches by identical 6-1, 6-0 scorelines, accounting for Salve Regina’s Sailor Nordstrom on September 3 before sweeping aside Bridgewater State’s Madeline von Ruden this past Saturday.

In doubles play, Lisi has been paired with fellow former Ram Macera, and they have combined to string together an 8-3 triumph over opposition from Salve before improving in their next outing, an 8-2 decision over a Bridgewater State partnership.

Macera plays in the number-two singles slot and started her campaign in the best possible way, defeating the Seahawks’ Alexa Stevens without dropping a game before taking care of the Bears’ Abigail Ramer 6-3, 6-0 to up her mark to 2-0 on the year.

Last but not least, Cranston East graduate Bobola has provided some depth at the back end of the slate for the Anchorwomen, playing one match each at fifth and sixth singles and a pair of tilts in the number-three doubles slot.

Like Lisi and Macera, the ex-Thunderbolt possesses an unblemished record, earning victories in her singles matches against Salve and Bridgewater State and teaming up with Erica Botelho to pick up two 8-1 wins in doubles action.

A pair of tests await RIC this week, starting with a non-league meeting with Saint Joseph of Connecticut on Thursday before a return to Little East play against Castleton two days later.

Lisi will be going into the clash with the Bluejays with yet another personal accolade under her belt, as she was named the LEC’s player of the week on Monday on the heels of her exploits against Bridgewater State.

Cranston East product Lauren Milani is building on her freshman season by doing her best to put the second-year slump at bay, helping out the Central Connecticut volleyball team in a variety of ways.

Even though the former Thunderbolt is not currently leading the Blue Devils in any statistical category, Milani is nonetheless figuring inside the top three of the team ledger in total attacks (183), aces (12) and digs (67).

The sophomore outside hitter’s most productive match thus far came last Saturday in CCSU’s four-set upending of the New Jersey Institute of Technology, as she contributed to the cause with ten kills, 27 total attacks and 11 digs, all season bests.

It was one of two tilts that the Blue Devils had on the day, as they were unable to prevent Dartmouth from earning a straight-sets triumph in the nightcap, with the Big Green’s servers slamming nine aces on their way to victory.

Milani and the rest of the Central Connecticut squad will begin the Northeast Conference portion of their schedule on Friday evening by hosting St. Francis-Brooklyn, followed by a visit from Long Island the next afternoon.

Junior Emily Vogt (Fairfield, Conn.) finished 97th as the Rhode Island College women’s cross country team finished 31st at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

RIC finished 31st (38 teams) with a team score of 842. UMass Lowell won the meet with a team score of 54.0.

There were 284 competitors and it was 5,000m race.

Vogt placed 97th (19:55.13). Freshman Amanda Hebert (Coventry, R.I.) finished 120th (20:11.48).

Sophomore Johnna Gallo (West Warwick, R.I.) placed 173rd (21:04.47).

Freshman Valeria Calderon Uribe (Central Falls, R.I.) finished 243rd (23:32.59).

Freshman Audrey Turcotte (Greenville, R.I.) placed 268th (25:33.90).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at Westfield State’s James Earley Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8 (11:15 a.m.).
