RI Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) will hold their annual

awards recognition breakfast this Friday at the Crowne Plaza. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.

RI MADD will recognize the extraordinary efforts of law enforcement, individuals, and agencies and coalitions working in highway safety and prevention for their service and dedication.  The event is an annual gathering of law enforcement officials recognizing those who work to end impaired driving on Rhode Island roads.

Colonel Stephen S. McCartney, who served as the Chief of Police for the City of Warwick for 19 years, and Colonel Edmond S. Culhane, Jr., retired Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police from 1990-2001, will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards for their dedicated service and trailblazing efforts against impaired driving and highway safety. Additionally, multiple law enforcement officials and advocates from across the state will receive recognition for their commitment to DUI enforcement, drug prevention, emergency services and dispatch, volunteering, education, and community outreach.

Created in 1980, MADD has evolved into one of the most influential and widely supported non- profit organizations in America. Their mission is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes, and prevent underage drinking.
