Clean up day

Sixty volunteers showed up at Oakland Cemetery on Aug. 6 for Gateway Pentecostal Fellowship’s (711 Park Ave.) clean up. The church holds an event each month called “Others Days” where they help needy families around the community.

The idea to clean up the cemetery came about when Pastor Russell Farmer called City Hall to see if there was a need they had not heard about. When talking to Deputy Chief of Staff Paul McAuley, his immediate response was Oakland Cemetery. The cemetery, located on Broad Street in Cranston, is owned by an absentee landlord who has neglected the property. (Herald photos by Steve Popiel)
