Toll Gate football has a new coaching staff in place for the first time in eight years, and they are rearing up for the 2022 season.

The program’s new head coach will be Jim Miceli and his staff includes six assistants, Billy Beagon, Brandon Neiwert, Joshua Silva, Mitchell Silva, Noah Silva, and Sean Vann.

Miceli coached as an assistant on the Chariho Chargers staff the past two seasons, and he is pumped up to lead his own program this year. He was the first Bryant head coach. In his first season there, the Bulldogs had a winning season and played for the league championship.

Miceli also coached at URI as both the quarterback coach and the running back coach from 2014-2020.

Prior to that, Miceli was a head coach at Ramapo, and an assistant coach at Pittsburgh, Maryland, Fordham, Georgetown and Akron. The Titans will be back up in Division III this season for the second year in a row.

Last year, they struggled there, finishing with a record of 1-5.

Leading Toll Gate on the field this season will be seniors, Roman Abatiello, Damien Benevides, Zach DeCorpo, Alberto Garcia, and Jay Vann.

Abatiello will be the voice of the defense as a linebacker and on offense, he will play at running back. Benevides too will be at running back.

DeCorpo will play multiple positions on offense, including running back and wide receiver. On defense, he ‘ll be at defensive back, and he’ll be the punter and the kicker.

Garcia will play on defense at nose tackle or linebacker, depending on the formation and the opponent.

Lastly, Vann is the frontrunner for the starting quarterback job, but he will battle sophomores Kason Wirtz and Jaiden-Tyree Alves for that duty. Vann will play safety on defense, while Wirtz will be at defensive back.

Toll Gate will have an injury fund scrimmage on Thursday, Sept. 1 at West Warwick before playing its first regular season game at Mt. Hope in Bristol on September 9th.

All of the Titans home games will be played on Friday nights at Warwick Vets.

Toll Gate has 62 players in total, which is twice as many as they had last year.

“I do know that the kids are excited,” Miceli said. “We have a lot more numbers, which is great. We have more than double the players and they’re working hard.”
