Celebrating the season, new playground equipment in Pontiac

The Pontiac Village Association will celebrate the installation of new playground equipment Saturday at the village park with a ribbon cutting followed by hot chocolate, cookies and coffee in the train station. The new equipment was made possible with an $8,000 grant from the Rhode Island Foundation. In addition to refreshments at the train station there will be children craft activities, holiday photo opportunities and a mailbox for letters to Santa. The event will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m. with the ribbon cutting at 1:15.

Clothing Donation Fundraiser at Pilgrim Senior Center

Clean out your closet for a cause. Fifth Graders of Hoxsie Elementary are holding a drive-thru clothing donation drive fundraiser at the Pilgrim Senior Center on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All gently used clothing, shoes, accessories, or household textiles will be accepted. Conimicut Village tree lighting

The annual Conimicut Village Tree Lighting will be Friday, December 3rd at 6 p.m. in Donovan Park. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by fire engine shortly after the lighting. Cider, juice boxes and cookies will be available. All are welcome.

 Brayton Cemetery cleanup

The Warwick Commission on Historical Cemeteries is holding the fall cleanup of Brayton Cemetery in Apponaug on Saturday from 9 to 11:30 am. If it is pouring rain or too much snow on the ground, and conditions improve on Sunday that will be the rain date.

Spring Green Church bazaar

On December 4, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Spring Green Memorial Church, 1350 Warwick Avenue, Warwick will be having a holiday bazaar. There will be a baked goods table, children’s grab bags, holiday gifts, holiday decorations, and a gift card raffle for local stores and restaurants. Make a Festive Christmas Journal

Make a festive Christmas journal at a two-part workshop at Warwick Public Library on Wednesdays, December 1 & 8 at 6:30 p.m. Fill your Christmas journal with photos and illustrations of the holidays, and create a decorative book to flip through or make a working journal to keep your holiday thoughts and memories. Bring a pencil, scissors, a glue stick, and paper—such as Christmas cards and envelopes, wrapping paper, sheet music, calendar pages, and gift tags. This free program is limited to 20 crafters. Model Railroad Club Open House

The Providence Northern Model Railroad Club will be hosting their annual two days open house on Dec. 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be taking place at 1175 West Shore Road in Warwick and there is a suggested donation of $2 for adults, a $5 maximum for families and free for children 12 and under. They are currently building a HO scale layout that is based on the New England area in 1985 from Providence to Northern Vermont and reaching Montreal Canada. Annual Toy Drive

The Tri-City Elks #14 annual toy drive will be taking place on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 7 to 11 p.m. at 1915 West Shore Road Warwick. There will be music by STRUMDAWGS and a buffet will be included with a donation of a new unwrapped toy and non-perishable food item. Donations of toys and food can also be made at the lodge through Dec. 11. The business hours for the Elk Lodge are Monday thru Thursday starting at 3 p.m. and Friday thru Sunday at 12 p.m. The toy drive will help local children in the community.

Christmas Fair

 St. Augustine’s Church, will hold its annual Christmas Fair on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 15 Lower College Road, in Kingston. Car Menorah Parade

Rhode Island’s second annual Menorah Parade will take place on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. Those joining the parade should assemble at Chabad of West Bay, 3871 Post Road, Warwick . E.G. Art Club news

The East Greenwich Art Club will have a meeting and demonstration on Tuesday, December 7th, from 7-8:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, 30 Pierce Street, East Greenwich. Use the Montrose St. entrance on the side by the parking lot. The meeting is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Lucas J.X. Kolasa, an international artist and teacher, will have a demo and lecture titled, “How Our Eyes See Our World with Rods and Cones”. Kolasa will explain how our eyes transmit the information to our brains. He will show how he uses a technique called pointillism to create portraits using paint filled syringes. Meals on Wheels in need

of volunteers

Meals on Wheels of RI is in immediate need of volunteers for its Home-Delivered Meal Program in Warwick.

Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program helps homebound seniors remain healthy, safe, and happy at home. For more information and a volunteer application, visit www.rimeals.org.

ESL classes at WPL

The Warwick Public Library and the RI Family Literacy Initiative host English as a Second Language (ESL) classes starting on September 20. Practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in small groups. Citizenship prep classes at WPL

Prepare for the U.S. Naturalization Interview with Citizen Preparation classes at the Warwick Public Library. Practice citizenship vocabulary, learn the necessary civics content, and work on interview skills using the N-400 application form.
