Celebrating music with fifth grade band and strings musicians

The sound of trombones, flutes, violins and xylophones drifted through the air at Cranston Stadium last Wednesday as fifth grade students from Cranston’s elementary schools warmed up for their citywide strings and band concert. This event has been an ongoing dream for the district’s elementary music teachers -- which finally came to life on June 2 when all schools came together and made music as one.

The Fifth Grade Band played four selections including “Rolling Along,” “Mozart Melody,” D Major Scale” and “Ode to Joy.” The Fifth Grade Strings musicians played “Hot Cross Buns,” “Au Claire De La Lune,” “Lightly Row” and closed the half-hour concert with “Hard Rock Blues.”
Elementary music teachers Jonathan Cox, Stephanie Barbieri, Jessica Mazza, Jason Santo, Ruth Moran, Daniel George, Jonathan Audette and Bethany Bobola directed the students’ musical numbers. (Herald photos)
