The Community College of Rhode Island, in collaboration with Real Jobs Rhode Island and the Department of Labor and Training, is now accepting applications for its Patient Support Specialist Training Program that will prepare students to become medical administrative assistants, patient service representatives, unit secretaries and medical customer service agents.

Tuition is free and funded through Real Jobs Rhode Island. The course begins March 30 and runs for eight weeks from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, at CCRI’s Liston Campus in Providence.

This specialized training prepares participants in a wide range of skills, including customer service, medical asepsis, patient conflict resolution, patient education, insurance, proper phone-call etiquette, and various computing/software skills. The program is geared toward individuals looking to gain the necessary skills for entry-level positions within the medical field, with job placement assistance and professional development included for all participants.

“We’re excited to work closely with our various employer partners to prepare students to enter the fast-growing medical field,” said Cody Fino, director of industry partnerships for CCRI’s Division of Workforce Partnerships. “This program is an incredible opportunity for those interested in gaining skills that can lead to a successful medical career.”

No experience is necessary and a GED or high school diploma is required. Individuals interested in this program should contact Cody Fino, Director of Industry Partnerships at cjfino@ccri.edu.
