Casting for kids

As they have done since they started it, The Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers, opened their 3-day fishing camp at Rocky Point Park on Tuesday with kids, guests including DEM director Terrence Gray and Mayor Frank Picozzi and members doing a ceremonial cast. On Wednesday the 48 campers spent the day on a party boat and for today, the final day, they were set to accompany members on their boats for a day of fishing. Camp director Richie Reich outlined the rules as soon as the campers, divided into teams designated by colored hats, were settled in the main tent. “It’s going to be the same as school,” he started out. There some groans. He told the kids to be prepared; respectful of one another and to dress appropriately for the weather. From then on the mood shifted to expectation especially when after the opening cast Kaiden King of Providence excitedly announced he had something as he reeled in the line. Indeed, he had something…the lure of one of those also casting. (Warwick Beacon photos)
