Obituary Honoring the Life of Richard M. Caldarone
A beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, and friend, Richard Michael Caldarone, 80, of Johnston, passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Hope Hospice Care Center in Providence, surrounded by the love of family and caring staff. Born in Providence on April 27,1944, he was the cherished son of the late Victor and Mary (Derico) Caldarone, and together with his siblings, was raised in a loving & traditional Italo-American home in storied Federal Hill. He was an active parishioner at the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church there, prior to its closure.
Always responsible and hardworking, Richard was a decades-long construction worker and proud member of Local 271, Laborers’ International Union. Among his many accomplishments, he worked on several major projects including the Rhode Island Convention Center and several others during his tenure with the former Cranston-based Cardi Corporation.
Truly a ‘man’s man’, he was a patriot, current events aficionado, and the epitome of a sports enthusiast with a particular fondness for football. He also enjoyed cooking & scratch-baking his ‘famous’ home-made pizzas; loved card playing with ‘the guys’; and took occasional trips to Las Vegas to ‘see the lights’ and perhaps place a bet or two!
On the ‘softer side’, he thoroughly enjoyed socializing with friends at Roma, Brewed Awakenings, and other frequent coffee stomps; preparing and cooking for Holidays; and simply sharing his sweet, kindly, and sometimes devilish smile and delightful sense of humor with family & friends. As a man of deep faith, he stayed close to God through continued Mass attendance and good deeds. Most of all, though, he treasured precious time spent with his family, especially his beloved and adored grandsons, all by whom he’ll be sorely missed but fondly remembered.
He is survived by his spouse of 51 years, Angela (Purro) Caldarone, of Warwick; his son, Richard M. Caldarone, Jr., of Johnston; his daughter, Lori Caldarone, of Warwick; his loving grandsons, Michael & Richard Caldarone, both of Johnston; and his devoted sister, Anna Bonsante, of Cranston.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Victor, Robert, & Ronald Caldarone, and two sisters, Josephine Mansolillo, and Angelina Caldarone.
Funeral services & interment were held on Friday, November 1st at St. Ann's Cemetery in Cranston; Reverend Anthony Verdelotti officiated. Staff at the Berarducci~Tatro Funeral Home were honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
