Buzzwords when you’re in your 60’s

Posted

As my friends and I age together, it’s interesting how our conversations have changed. In your twenties you talk about what you did on the weekend. It’s all about you!

That quickly changes to talking about children, day care and schools. Then, comes talks about college and before you know it, it comes full circle, and you can start to focus on yourself again.

Lately in my circle of friends we’ve been focused on looking and feeling good. We trade recipes for healthy eating and plan walks and hikes together. For me one of the most important things I’ve done over the years, is take care of my skin. I always use sunscreen, even in the winter. The lotions and potions that are available to help with lines and wrinkles are everywhere. What I learned is that you need to treat your skin from the inside out.

Collagen is the new buzzword. What is collagen? Collagen is a protein that plays a protective role in the human body. It occurs throughout the body but is abundance is the skin, bones, and tissues. I decided to do a deep dive into what works and what doesn’t. Turns out, collagen works best if it’s taken in supplement form. We all know that drinking water to hydrate your body is key for healthy and glowing skin. Collagen helps your body retain that water. It also boosts your collagen production, which slows down dramatically, as we age. This can help with fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. It also helps your hair and nails. I have seen dramatic results in the few months I been using a collagen supplement!

Eating foods rich in vitamin C and amino acids are also great for collagen production. I love my life as I age. The truth is that looking good makes you feel good. They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but what are the things we tell ourselves when we look in the mirror. I participated in the forty-year challenge on Facebook, this week. That’s where you put up two pictures of yourself, forty years apart. It was amazing to see the difference. My friends and I help each other and share any tidbits about diet, exercise, and products.
