Oakland Beach meeting is tonight

Pick your own blueberries at Rocky Point Farm

Blueberry season is back at the Rhody Point Farm. Guests can pick their own berries Monday through Thursday as well as Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon. Price depends on how much you pick. For more information, call (401) 737-4017. 

Blood drive in honor of Gianna Cirella

During Gianna Cirella’s 16-day battle with sepsis, she needed 174 blood transfusions. Every one of them came from RI Blood Center donors. Not every story has a happy ending, but everyone deserves a fighting chance. Honor Gi’s life and spirit by donating blood at the American Legion - William Shields Post #43 on Thursday, July 15 from 3 to 8 p.m. Appointments are required, walk-ins only accepted if space allows. Get a Job Thursdays

We Make RI, an organization that provides free manufacturing training, is hosting a series of job fairs every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at their offices at 200 First Avenue in Cranston. The next job fair will take place today, July 8. We Make RI offers job seekers a chance to meet with employers, get career counseling, resume help, and more. Some employers include Swissline Precision, Admiral Packaging, KB Surfaces, Warwick Hanger, and Hitachi Cable. WPD Youth Leadership Camp

Registration is now open for the Warwick Police Department Leadership Camp. The Youth Leadership Camp is a four day long camp serving youth in the city of Warwick from ages 11-14.  Kids will learn team building skills, through activities, field trips and guest speakers. The cost to attend the camp is $50.

Rocky Point food truck festival

The City of Warwick, We Be Jammin’, and Ocean State Food Truck Festivals presents a food truck fest on Saturday, July 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event, held at Rocky Point Park, will feature over 100 vendors, over 20 food trucks, and live music. Admission is free. Bring a chair or blanket, and hang out with friends and family in the sprawling fields against the beautiful ocean scenery.

RIPIN drive-up vaccine clinic

On Saturday, July 10 from 9 to 11 a.m., the Rhode Island Parent Information Network (RIPIN) will be hosting a drive-through vaccine clinic. The event will take place at their office parking lot, located at 300 Jefferson Blvd. The clinic is open to all ages 12 and older, but is particularly ideal for children, youth or adults with disabilities, or for anyone for whom it is difficult to get a vaccine at another site. Warwick Library book groups

On Thursday, July 15 from 2 to 3 p.m. the Warwick Public Library history book club will meet to discuss Empire of the Blue Water: Captain Morgan’s Great Pirate Army, the Epic Battle for the Americas, and the Catastrophe That Ended the Outlaws’ Bloody Reign by Stephan Talty. imPossible Dream food truck night 

Ocean State Food Truck Festivals is bringing local food trucks to the imPossible Dream Playground at 575 Centerville Road on Thursday, July 22 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Admission is free, just pay for what you eat and drink. Food trucks accept credit, debit, and cash. The event will also feature live music and a beer garden. 

Crafts for teens at Warwick Public Library

Drop by the Warwick Public Library to pick up the latest teen grab and go craft kits. Tie-dye socks will be available from July 26 to July 31 while supplies last. Create a variety of designs to make your socks one-of-a-kind! All the supplies are in the bag.  

On Monday, August 2 from 3 to 4 p.m., the library will host a make your own beeswax candle class for teens in grades 6 through 12. All materials are provided, but due to limited space registration is needed. Registration opens July 12 and can be found at www.warwicklibrary.org/events

WPD National Night Out

The Warwick Police Department, the Oakland Beach Crime Watch and the Neighborhood Crime Watch Groups from around the city, in conjunction with the Citizen's Police Academy Alumni and Warwick Youth Advisory and Prevention Committee, would like to invite you to participate in National Night Out 2021 on Tuesday, August 3 from 5 to 9 p.m.

We will have thousands in attendance, over 50 exhibitors, entertainers and complementary food and drink followed by a fireworks display. Please come out as we educate our citizens on how to fight crime in their own neighborhoods. The event will take place at the Oakland Beach Commons at the end of Oakland Beach Avenue in Warwick.

Pilgrim High School reunion

The Pilgrim High School classes of 1966 to 1969 are invited to a reunion barbeque on August 22 from 1 to 6 p.m. The event will be held at Fort Getty in Jamestown. Food will be served at 2 p.m. and includes pulled pork chicken, ribs, coleslaw, cornbread, and dessert. Gas grills are available to use. There will be a dance floor, volleyball court, and beach with swim access. The location is handicap accessible, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chair and drinks. Tickets are $40 per person, and RSVPs must be made by August 1. Beach passes sold at Library

The Warwick Public Library, Sandy Lane branch, is selling Warwick beach passes. Beachgoers will be able to purchase passes anytime the library is open. Passes are $20 for residents, per car; $40 for non-residents, per car; $10 for seniors (60), veterans, and disabled residents, per car; and $20 for seniors (60), veterans, and non-residents, per car. Day passes are sold at individual beaches. Passes are good from July 1 to September 6. Proof of residency is required, with a state ID/license and car registration. Proof of age, veterans, and disability status is also required. Cash, check, or money order made out to the City of Warwick will be accepted.

Ben Boyle & Ron Kostyla Golf Classic

Registration for the 38th Annual Ben Boyle & Ron Kostyla Golf Classic for SHARE is now open. The event will be held at the Richmond Country Club on Sunday, August 29, with tee-off at 8 a.m. Day-of registration will open at 7 a.m., with dinner and awards following the end of last play. Golfers are invited to participate in remembrance of Boyle and Kostyla, two community members who dedicated their lives to helping others. The golf package includes a full game of 18 holes, access to refreshments in the morning and lunch in the afternoon, a swag bag, team awards, event prizes, and a sit-down dinner reception. A raffle will also be available. Prizes include a weekend getaway to New Hampshire, 40” Smart TV, Kindle Fire tablet, $100 Amazon gift card, and a grill. AARP field trips

The 210 chapter of AARP is hosting a series of field trips. The first is on Thursday, September 16 to the Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant for a buffet lunch followed by a performance of Murder at the Howard Johnson’s. The lighthearted and entertaining comedy follows the story of a love triangle that takes place at the Howard Johnson’s Motor Inn. Bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. from the I-95 Park & Ride at Exit 6A, Coventry, and will return around 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $109 per person and payment is due by August 16. From Sunday, November 7 to Tuesday, November 9, AARP is hosting a trip to Atlantic City. On the 7th, attendees will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the I-95 Park & Ride at Exit 6A, Coventry and travel to Atlantic City’s first casino, Resorts. Upon arrival, guests will receive $20 casino slot cash, $50 in food credits, and a casino show. The bus will return to RI around 7:30 p.m. on the 9th. The tour cost is $269 per person for a double room, $259 per person for a triple room, and $369 per person for a single room. Registration open for NAMI Family-to-Family course 

NAMI Rhode Island

is offering a Family-to-Family course beginning Wednesday, July 14 at 6:30 pm. This is a free, virtual 8-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. Research shows that the program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to a person with a mental health condition.

NAMI Family-to-Family is taught by trained family members who have "been there" and includes presentations, discussions and interactive exercises.

NAMI Family-to-Family not only provides information and strategies for taking care of the person you love, but you'll also find out that you're not alone. Recovery is a journey, and there is hope. The group setting of NAMI Family-to-Family provides mutual support.

Warwick Vets reunion rescheduled

The Warwick Veterans Memorial High School class of 1960 reunion has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18. The event will be held at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet at 1 Rhodes Place. There will be a social hour from 12 to 1 p.m., and then a luncheon buffet from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $40 per person. Fez-tival of Trees returns to Rhodes on the Pawtuxet

Rhodes on the Pawtuxet is now accepting applications for crafters, vendors, and artists for the 7th annual Rhode Island Shriners Fez-tival of Trees. The event is scheduled for November 27 and 28. In 2019, over 3,000 guests strolled through the fundraising event Vendors have a few space options this year. Options include an 8' table in the mezzanine area for one day at $75, 8x8 front lobby space for both days at $200, and 10x10 front lobby space for both days at $250.
