Having raised $15,000 with its annual Thanksgiving Day turkey trot, the largest amount collected in donations and registration fees that the Warwick Rotary Club has collected since member Thomas Sanford started the event, the club gave half the money to KEEP, the Kent Emergency Employee Program at Kent Hospital. The program pays for rent, food and other needs of hospital employees who can’t keep up with expenses during difficult times, usually during an illness or emergency. Rotary will use the balance of the funds to support charitable requests from Warwick non profits. Accepting the donation were Father David Ricard, retired director of pastoral care at Kent Hospital and priest-in-residence at St. Gregory the Great Church in Cowesett and Sue Barbour who oversee KEEP. Pictured at Thursday’s meeting from left are: Jo-Anne Schofield, Rotary Club member who assisted in running the turkey trot; Father Ricard, Barbour, Bev Wiley of the club who also assisted with the trot, Sanford and Rotary Club president Scott Seaback.
