Food truck Fridays at Roger Williams Park

Kick off the weekend with food trucks at Carousel Village at Roger Williams Park on Friday, Aug. 20. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. enjoy over 15 locally owned food trucks while listening to live music. Drive -Thru Food Pantry

Spring Green Memorial Church will be holding their monthly Drive-Thru Food Pantry on Saturday, August 21.

Warwick Summer Concert Series

The City of Warwick is hosting a series of free outdoor summer concerts. For a full line-up and more local events, visit www.visitwarwickri.com/events.

Family-friendly Conimicut band, Bayside Beat, will perform at Conimicut Point on August 21 at 2 p.m.

8-piece Down City Band will be performing hits from yesterday and today at Oakland Beach on August 25 at 6 p.m.

St. Mark’s Vendor Fair

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will host an outdoor vendor fair on the lawn of West Shore Health Center located at 109 West Shore Road. The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is available next door at the church. Asbury United Methodist Church jazz and classic concert

On Sunday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m., accomplished musicians, including a Grammy-winning bassist will fill the air with joyful and beautiful melodies. The outdoor concert will take place on the lawn at Asbury UMC in Gaspee Plateau (123 Ann Mary Brown Drive). Church parking lot and restrooms will be available to the public, but it’s encouraged that attendees bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs.

The concert is being held to help support free music schools at Zion Korean United Methodist Church and Haven United Methodist Church. Both churches will open free music schools for everyone. West Bay Chorale seeks singers

West Bay Chorale will hold their 2021-2022 season kickoff and pre-registration meeting on Monday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at St. Kevin Church located at 333 Sandy Lane. Current choristers as well as those interested in joining the Chorale are invited to pre-register and learn the details. Information regarding COVID-related rules will also be shared. Artistic director Eric Vandervort and the chorale’s board of directors will lead the meeting. All current singers and those interested in joining must be vaccinated, show proof of vaccination, and must wear a mask.

Toll Gate High School orientation

Toll Gate High School will hold a New Student Orientation on August 24, 25, and 26 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Robert J. Shaprio Cultural Center at the school. The orientation will include a brief presentation by school administration, a discussion of Graduation by Proficiency requirements, and the activities offered at the school. Toll Gate Student Ambassadors will conduct a tour of the school for parents and students.

The orientation schedule is divided by student last name and is as follows:

August 24: Alcantara to Greene

August 25: Guaba to Palmiscino

August 26: Parentieau to Zuniga, as well as students who were distance learners or any new student to the Toll Gate community.

No More Hunger Community Walk

A walk to call attention to food insecurity and raise funds for local pantries is being planned by a group of area churches: Woodbury Union, Lakewood Baptist, St. Benedict, St. Kevin, and St. Mark’s. The walk will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16. An informational planning meeting will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. at Woodbury Union Church at 58 Beach Ave. All interested community churches, organizations, and individuals are invited to attend. Warwick Vets Memorial High School Class of 1966 reunion

ESL classes at WPL

The Warwick Public Library and the RI Family Literacy Initiative will be hosting English as a Second Language (ESL) classes starting on September 20. Practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in small groups. Classes are free and meet twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Sign up at the library beginning Sept. 13. For more information, call (401) 455-8041.

Citizenship prep classes at WPL

Prepare for the U.S. Naturalization Interview with Citizen Preparation classes at the Warwick Public Library. Practice citizenship vocabulary, learn the necessary civics content, and work on interview skills using the N-400 application form. Get back into the swing of something fun!

On Monday Sept. 20, the Boys and Girls Club of Warwick will host their 43rd annual golf tournament at the Warwick Country Club. The cost for individual players is $250. Corporate sponsor levels range from $150 for a Tee Sign, upwards. Entry fee includes lunch, dinner, snacks, green fees and more. All donations are tax deductible and help BGCW provide safe, fun, life-enhancing programming for area youth. Meals on Wheels in need of volunteers

Meals on Wheels of RI is in immediate need of volunteers for its Home-Delivered Meal Program in Warwick. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The program helps homebound seniors remain healthy, safe, and happy at home. Healing Arts in the Park: Making Music

Local musician and RI Music Hall of Fame inductee Mark Cutler is leading a statewide, collaborative songwriting project throughout the month of August. The workshop will take place at Slater Mill, 67 Roosevelt Ave in Pawtucket on Thursday, Aug. 19 and 26 at 7 p.m. Bring your friends and family for a free evening with the arts, sponsored by the Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park. Ben Boyle & Ron Kostyla Golf Classic

Registration for the 38th Annual Ben Boyle & Ron Kostyla Golf Classic for SHARE is now open. The event will be held at the Richmond Country Club on Sunday, August 29, with tee-off at 8 a.m. Day-of registration will open at 7 a.m., with dinner and awards following the end of last play. Golfers are invited to participate in remembrance of Boyle and Kostyla, two community members who dedicated their lives to helping others. The golf package includes a full game of 18 holes, access to refreshments in the morning and lunch in the afternoon, a swag bag, team awards, event prizes, and a sit-down dinner reception. A raffle will also be available. Prizes include a weekend getaway to New Hampshire, 40” Smart TV, Kindle Fire tablet, $100 Amazon gift card, and a grill. Painted Rooms of RI on display at Library

Ann Eckert Brown has opened her new exhibit, Painted Rooms of Rhode Island, at the Warwick Public Library. The free exhibit will run from now until the end of August. The exhibit features replications created by Brown of wall stenciling techniques that were popular in New England houses prior to the 1840s. Weekly car show at Tri-City Elks Lodge #14

The Tri-City Elks Lodge at 1915 West Shore Road invites you to the weekly car show, held every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Bring your auto and show it off, or just come and enjoy. Motorcycles are welcome. Music and food will be available, as will the Tiki Bar serving cold beverages. Entrance is free.

Get a Job Thursdays

We Make RI, an organization that provides free manufacturing training, is hosting a series of job fairs every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at their offices at 200 First Avenue in Cranston. The next job fair will take place today, August 19. We Make RI offers job seekers a chance to meet with employers, get career counseling, resume help, and more. The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness provides free family support groups and educational programs. These resources exist because friends and family members like you are passionate about sharing what they've learned and determined to pay it forward. The value of your voice, shared experience, and leadership is truly priceless to those who are struggling. Please consider reaching out and helping to create healthy, supportive communities across Rhode Island where good mental health for all can be our shared reality.

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free 8-session educational program for families, significant others, and friends of people living with mental illness. It is a designated evidenced-based program. NAMI-trained family members lead the course with presentations, discussions, and interactive exercises. AARP field trips

The 210 chapter of AARP is hosting a series of field trips. The first is on Thursday, September 16 to the Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant for a buffet lunch followed by a performance of Murder at the Howard Johnson’s. The lighthearted and entertaining comedy follows the story of a love triangle that takes place at the Howard Johnson’s Motor Inn. Bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. from the I-95 Park & Ride at Exit 6A, Coventry, and will return around 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $109 per person and payment is due by August 16. From Sunday, November 7 to Tuesday, November 9, AARP is hosting a trip to Atlantic City. On the 7th, attendees will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the I-95 Park & Ride at Exit 6A, Coventry and travel to Atlantic City’s first casino, Resorts. Upon arrival, guests will receive $20 casino slot cash, $50 in food credits, and a casino show. The bus will return to RI around 7:30 p.m. on the 9th. The tour cost is $269 per person for a double room, $259 per person for a triple room, and $369 per person for a single room. Warwick Vets reunion rescheduled

The Warwick Veterans Memorial High School class of 1960 reunion has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18. The event will be held at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet at 1 Rhodes Place. There will be a social hour from 12 to 1 p.m., and then a luncheon buffet from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $40 per person. Checks can be made out to Kathy Bouthillier and mailed to 94 Colonel John Gardner Road, Narragansett, RI 02882. Payments must be received by July 23, as tickets will not be sold at the door. Warwick Public Library book groups

Outdoor movie night at Winslow Field

To celebrate the renovations of three fields at Winslow Park, the Apponaug Girls Fastpitch softball team is hosting an outdoor showing of The Sandlot on Friday, Sept. 10. Free petting zoo at Pawtuxet Baptist Church

Wine & paint fundraiser

The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company and Museum is hosting a paint night on Sept. 23 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The event will take place at Greenwood Hall located at 45 Kernick St. It will be a night full of fun, food, and painting all for a good cause. Beginners are welcome, and all painters leave with a finished painting. Supplies and step-by-step instruction included. Tickets are $45 for non-members and $40 for members. Annual Conimicut Village yard sale

The annual Conimicut Village-wide yard sale will take place on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 26. There is no cost to participate, just set up at your house and keep the profits! The Conimicut Village Association will publish a map of participating homes and publicize the sale.
