Be The Light Gala to benefit RI's homeless

The MAE Organization for the Homeless’ annual Be The Light Gala is back.

This year, the event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Warwick. Proceeds will benefit the MAE Organization and its mission to provide services and support to people facing homelessness.

Tickets cost $100 each and black-tie attire is suggested.

“Funds raised will be even more impactful – after a year of our community dealing with COVID, many more people are now experiencing homelessness and facing the potential of being at risk of homelessness. Our cause is more important now than it ever has been before,” said Martinha Javid, founder of the MAE Organization.

All funds raised this year will be distributed to the Wellness Center that the MAE Organization recently opened in Cranston. At the Wellness Center, the group will be able to provide needed mental health programs, as well as programs to assist those suffering from drug and opioid addiction. Unfortunately, the number of individuals suffering from the debilitating disease of opioid addiction has been on the rise since the onset of the pandemic, as well.

“Through our services, clients will have access to support, counseling, individual and group holistic therapies,” Javid said. “Here, clients will also be able to access a pop-up shop where they can get clothing and toiletries, and, in the future, we hope to be able to provide free monthly haircuts for all clients.”

To start off the gala, during the cocktail hour, guests will enjoy a complementary wine bar and appetizers cooked on-site by local celebrity chef Frank Terranova.

Barbara Morse and Mario Hilario from WJAR will serve as the special guest emcees.

Other highlights for the evening will include DJ Valentina Cafferky Marianetti, a ballet performance, a special MAE Organization video presentation, both live and silent auctions, and dinner with complementary wine.

For more information or to reserve tickets, visit www.maeorg.org or RSVP to Javid at (401) 206-1451 by Nov. 1.
