Celebrate the best season of the year with flowers

Posted

Autumn is here in all its glorious colors and sensations!  Brilliantly colored leaves adorn trees of all sizes, creating multi-colored displays that defy description. The air is filled with the aroma of fires burning in fireplaces, fallen leaves and pine needles that carpet forest floors, cinnamon and pumpkin spice carried on the breeze from a baking pie or scented candle.  The days may be shorter, but they are more brilliant and vibrant than all year long.

Admiring these rich sensory experiences is John Dick, an outdoorsman and the owner of Atwood Florist in Johnston.  John embraces every season and all the traditions and rituals that keep him busy year-round, but the fall is different, it is special.  Under normal circumstances, he would be busy creating boutonnieres and corsages for school dances, centerpieces and bouquets for weddings, and floral arrangements for all the events celebrated at this time of year.  Without these events, the job of florists like John is to innovate and find other ways to showcase their talent and hard work.

Thinking ahead to happier, more carefree days, John is excited to announce his post-Thanksgiving “Second Annual Boxwood Centerpiece-Making workshops.”  These popular gatherings are being planned with every COVID-safe measure in place.  Group must not exceed ten guests and all must be family members or close friends who are within the same “quarantine circle.”  Face coverings are required and social distancing will be enforced.  Participants will leave these workshops with a beautiful centerpiece to usher in the holiday season!

This year, as in years past, John is also the first location in the state to offer fireworks from Phantom Fireworks for those who want to celebrate the New Year (which we ALL hope will be more worthy of celebration than was 2020!) Check out his display as the season approaches.

Nursing homes and hospitals are also finally allowing their residents to receive flowers, so give Atwood Florist a call to send along a custom-made arrangement to cheer up your loved one.

Atwood Florist has been home to personalized flower arrangements for nearly 30 years.  Over the course of those years, John has earned a reputation of dependability, originality, creativity, and expediency.  He knows how to arrange flowers so that they come alive! John loves to use traditional flowers such as the ever-popular roses and mums, but he has also introduced his customers to new varieties.  His eye for color and proportion and shape make his arrangements both timeless and contemporary at the same time.  His primary job is to cater to your specific needs and wants ~ whether in the middle of a pandemic or during any other time of year.

Atwood Florist is located at 1041 Atwood Avenue. John can be reached at 401-274-7300. Visit the website at www.atwoodflorist.com or “like” them on Facebook.  The shop is open Mon-Fri from 9:00-5:00pm, Saturday from 9:00-2:00pm. Same day delivery is guaranteed if you call by noon.
