Arakelian looking to take home Miss Rhode Island Teen USA crown

Posted

The Arakelian family is a classic example of the phrase “like mother, like daughter.”

Giavanna Marie Arakelian is hoping to follow in the footsteps of her mother, Gina M. Sabitoni-Arakelian.

In 2016, Sabitoni-Arakelian – a Johnston resident and business professional who holds the title of administrative assistant for the Rhode Island Laborers District Council – walked down the runway after being announced as Mrs. Rhode Island USA and thus won a berth in the prestigious Mrs. America USA finals.

On Friday, Oct. 4, and continuing through Sunday, Oct. 6, Giavanna Marie Arakelian will be at the famed Park Theatre in Cranston competing for the treasured title of Miss Rhode Island Teen USA 2020 that also comes with a spot in the Miss Teen USA national pageant.

Giavanna, 17, is a senior at La Salle Academy in Providence and works as a Senate page at the Rhode Island State House. In addition to her studies at La Salle and rigid training schedule in competitive dance, Giavanna is currently looking at colleges and universities and considering a career in the medical profession.

It’s not all books – and lessons in politics – with the talented Johnston native.

She also takes pride in helping her mother and father, George, who have long dedicated much of their free time to community service helping important a number of nonprofits and charities such as Meeting Street School.

“My wife and I are extremely proud of what Giavanna has accomplished during her many years in dance,” George Arakelian, who is well known as the owner of A Custom Car Stereo Center at 1174 Atwood Ave. in Johnston, told the Sun Rise. “She works hard in school and in dance. Giavanna has earned every honor she’s ever received.”

Should Giavanna take home the crown on Oct. 6, she would go on to compete for the highly acclaimed Miss Teen USA crown when the annual extravaganza unfolds in Las Vegas.
