Animal Encounters

EDUCATION: Michaela Nelson and Allison Barrows sat with the children teaching them about what it means to be native wildlife and what kind of native wildlife live right in their backyards.

STAR OF THE SHOW: Albus, the one-year-old Virginia Opossum, was a hit with the kids at the Animal Encounters in Garden City.

LET’S PLAY: Zoo Ambassadors Michaela Nelson and Allison Barrows played a game with the children to teach them about native wildlife and their food sources.

Join educators from the Roger Williams Park Zoo at Garden City Center to learn more about the wild world of animals. Programs will offer opportunities for adult/child pairs to make discoveries together and will include a lesson, activity and meet and greet with one of Roger Williams Zoo ambassador animals.

Held from 10 to11 a.m., pre-registration is required at GardenCityCenter.com. This is a free program. This week’s guest animal was a one-year-old Virginia Opossum named Albus. Opossums are the only marsupials native to North America. (Herald photos by Steve Popiel)
