A devastating burden

No, I do not think $16,900 is fair to put on the backs of hardworking people who just want to live in their homes and be left alone (“Contractor given go-ahead on $17.9M Bayside sewer project,” Page 1). Nothing they are doing with this is right. The mayor is making false promises without a guarantee so he can try to persuade more people to go along with it. It’s wrong and sneaky. This should have been put to a vote for the people it is going to affect.

That letter is all lies and stinks to high heaven in my opinion, and that of many others. It’s very vague with very little information. And that’s done on purpose to keep everyone in the dark about what’s really going on behind the scenes.

I believe Ed Ladacuer and the mayor will go to extreme lengths to push this through without having to answer any questions.

This also affects a person if they choose to sell down the road. Now I have to bargain the sale price of my home to continue to pay for a sewer system that I won’t even be using! And the buyer gets it for free because I had to take it off the top of my sale price! Essentially a person not even living there anymore has lost thousands and thousands of dollars from their projected profit. That is so unfair! Losing that money affects the rest of my life because now that I’ll have less money in my pocket, it will determine where I buy another home if I can afford it, it will determine when and if I can retire. It will determine my lifestyle, my medical coverage, my ability to continue paying my bills. This sewer project is dictating how I am going to live for the rest of my life. Let’s say I have to give up $20,000 because of this ridiculously expensive burden. I don’t know about you, but losing that kind of money is devastating and most certainly affects everything I do for the rest of my life. Why isn’t anyone concerned about how we are going to live after this catastrophe drops on us?

They don’t care about that. It’s them trying to fulfill a campaign promise made years ago.

They should be ashamed of themselves for doing this to hardworking people. Aside from all the problems with the contract and the deal, etc., which we know little about, the human sacrifices that are going to have to be made are devastating to a lot of people who have lived here their entire lives and are retired now, their house may be paid off, but hey, along comes another 30-year loan to knock us down again! Despicable, disgusting and dishonest in so many ways.

The almighty dollar and a bunch of big egos is what’s pushing this through one month from now!

How dare they mess with our lives like this? Do you know how many people are going to have to sell off and move? Or some may have to walk away with nothing.

I couldn’t sleep at night if this is what I had to do to people. How many folks now can’t pay for or can’t help pay for their kids’ college tuition? Buy a needed new car? All sorts of fallout from this.

I already listed some of my issues, so I’m not going to repeat them again. But the human side of this will hurt everyone. As a candidate for mayor, Picozzi said he wouldn’t do anything that was going to hurt us, or make us lose our homes, etc. He made a lot of promises before he was elected.

And during a two-year pandemic is the perfect time to do this, right? I’m astonished at the gall and lack of humanity that is being displayed here.

Construction prices are an all-time high, people are waiting months for supplies, but that’s not going to be a problem for us, right? Because we’re special? That means roads will be dug up for many more months than necessary.

I truly think this is the absolute worst timing for this to happen. It’s insulting. It screams “we don’t care and we’re gonna do it no matter what the cost and no matter what collateral damage there is.”

These are the absolute wrong people running this city. Side deals, back door deals, under the table deals, etc. All being made so they can get their wish. Picozzi lied to all of us.

Sorry for the rant, but it’s how I feel and the human side and human sacrifices to be made need to be out there and seen by everyone, not just the people it’s happening to.
