When you look better, you feel better

Last week I talked about ways you to keep up your beauty routines while salons are closed. If you don’t feel comfortable coloring your own hair, there are other things you can do that can help. Because my hair is bleached, coloring it isn’t something I’m willing to try at home.

I’ve seen way too many “yellow” hair results, even in a salon setting! What I’ve been doing is using colorful bandanas and headbands.

There are several ways to wear bandana. First, lay the bandana down. Fold it in half, so you have a triangle. Then roll or fold it to the desired thickness you’d like. Style your hair as usual.

You are then going to place the bandana around your head. You can tie it on the top, to one side or in the back. If you tie it in the back, you would make the knot under your hairline. A top tie looks cute and casual. A back tie is more elegant and can show off a great pair of earrings. After you have the bandana in place you can secure it with a couple of bobby pins.

Play around with the hair around your face. Try pulling out a couple of pieces around you face for a sexy look. A sleek look can be great, too! If you are more of a headband kind of girl, try goggling “headbands.” There are so many styles available from solid colors to animal prints and even jeweled ones. They are inexpensive and when this is all over, it’s always great to have an assortment of hair accessories for the summer months.

If you have curly or wavy hair, this is a great time to embrace those curls! Curly hair does best when not shampooed daily. The products for curly hair are made to hydrate and define. The headband or bandana will hide the “fuzzies” around your hairline and you may find that you actually love your hair curly. I suggest investing in a product that tames the frizzes and helps you achieve that perfect curl. I find that when I take the time to look better, I feel better.

Once you mastered the bandana/headband look, try experimenting with your makeup. When your hair is off your face you can go with a bolder eye make-up look or a brighter lipstick. A hanging earring will stand out and even necklaces will look different.

So take some time, sit in front of the mirror and experiment. Who knows, you may find a whole new look for yourself! As always if you have any questions or concerns reach out to me at SixtiesAndSexy@gmail.com and follow me on my blog at SixtiesAndSexy.net.
