Rhode Island General Treasurer Seth Magaziner hosted a ceremony on May 9 honoring 66 high school juniors from across Rhode Island with the General Treasurer's Young Leader Award; among those students were five Cranston recipients.

The Young Leader Award is presented to high school juniors across the state who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in math, economics, finance and business-related courses, and who are active in their community. Since 2015, Treasurer Magaziner has recognized over 400 Rhode Island students with this high achievement.

Recipients from Cranston included Ava Boyle from Cranston Area Career Technical Center, Peyton Ginolfi from Cranston High School East, Alexis Rastella from Cranston High School West. Erin Hajian from La Salle Academy and Chase Iacono from the NEL/CPS Construction Career Academy.

Boyle is the Cranston West DECA Chapter Vice-President and a member of the Rhode Island DECA State Action Team as well a high honor roll student and member of Cranston West Varsity Girls Basketball team.

Ginolfi is a high honor roll student and is the team captain of the Cranston East football team. He has operated his own business since he was 11-years old and established an LLC in September focusing on landscaping projects and lawn care.

Rastella has completed over 25 hours of community service -- volunteering at the Cranston Veterans Memorial Ice Rink. With a GPA of over 3.50 and upholding the pillars of leadership and service, Rastella is being considered for induction into the Cranston West National Honor Society.

Hajian will be inducted in the National Honor Society and is a La Salle Scholar; she is a member of the cross country and track and field teams. Hajian is the founder of the La Salle Baking Club and is a member of the Environmental Club, Apparel Design Club and La Salle Players.

Iacono is a junior at NEL/CPS Construction Career Academy, and he is the top ranked student in his class and the top student in the construction technology pathway at his school. Iacono has been on the honor roll every quarter and has received the Faculty Award for Effort, Math Award and Science Award.

"The 2022 Young Leader Award winners have already made meaningful contributions to their communities both inside and outside the classroom," said General Treasurer Seth Magaziner.
