About 2,100 National Grid customers were affected by a power outage in Warwick on Monday night.

According to Ted Kresse a spokesperson for National Grid the outage was “due to an animal contact on Warwick Ave, and all customers were restored within a half hour.”
When asked for clarification Kresse said “Animals (squirrels, birds,
etc.) can cause an outage when they come in contact with both the energized wire and either a ground or another energized component.”

On Tuesday night another outage in Warwick occurred this time impacting roughly 2,600 customers. The outage occurred around 7:15 p.m.

“The vast majority of those customers were picked up around 8:30p.m.,with roughly 30 more customers getting power restored around 1 a.m,” said Kresse.

Kresse said that the second outage was due to “a couple phases (wires) coming down on Jefferson Ave, likely due to deterioration.”.

“It’s unfortunate we had two so close together under unique circumstances, but we don’t anticipate this being an ongoing issue,” said Kresse
