Advertising Account Executive

Are you a people person who loves closing a sale? Do you enjoy working in a deadline-driven environment?

Beacon Media, home of the Warwick Beacon, Cranston Herald, Johnston Sun Rise, and The Reminder, is seeking an advertising account executive to join a team that understands the value of local news to the business community.

The ideal candidate will have two to four years sales experience and is interested in working with clients to tailor advertising solutions that work for their budgets.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a commission-based sales representative, a plus if with a newspaper or digital news organization 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
  • Top-notch organizational skills, with a commitment to accuracy, to meeting weekly newspaper deadlines
  • Keen interest in keeping up with local news and a natural curiosity about the businesses coming and going across the coverage area
  • Strong research abilities to find the best contacts and to understand the challenges and opportunities facing businesses
  • Adaptable and can juggle multiple tasks and work under deadlines
  • Collaborate and contribute to a dynamic sales team environment
  • Experience with Microsoft office is necessary
  • Experience with InDesign is a plus
  • Associate or undergraduate degree is a plus

  • Divide time between reporting in person daily to the newsroom based in Warwick, Rhode Island as well as on the road meeting with accounts
  • Team works some evenings and weekends
  • Reliable, regular transportation is required

Responsibilities

The advertising sales representative will:

  • Manage a sales territory including calling on existing accounts and developing new accounts
  • Collaborate with other departments such as marketing, production, and finance to support sales initiatives and resolve customer issues
  • Handle administrative duties related to sales accounts, including drafting proposals, data entry and filing insertion orders, among other duties
  • Schedule and coordinate print and digital advertisements
  • Source major accounts as well as local businesses for advertising opportunities
  • Additional duties upon request from management
