Beacon Media, home of the Warwick Beacon, Cranston Herald, and Johnston Sun Rise, is seeking community reporter interns during the academic year and winter/summer breaks.
- Undergraduate or graduate student (may be of particular interest to those studying journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field, but students of all studies are encouraged to apply)
- Excellent communications skills, particularly writing and editing on deadline
- Strong internet research abilities
- Keen interest in uncovering stories and a natural curiosity about the world around you
- Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and objectivity
- Adaptable and can juggle multiple tasks and work under deadlines
- Collaborate and contribute to a dynamic newsroom environment
This is an unpaid internship with the potential for per-story compensation after the first two weeks.
Duration: Ongoing, throughout the academic year and winter/summer breaks
Interns report to 1944 Warwick Avenue for assignments and to write and edit stories
Reliable, regular transportation is required for covering stories
Report: Cover local news, events, and community issues.
Interview: Conduct interviews with community members, local leaders, and newsmakers.
Write: Produce compelling articles, features, and news briefs.
Collaborate: Work closely with our experienced editorial team to hone your skills.
Additional opportunities may exist for developing social media content or taking photographs to accompany articles, as needed.
