Robert G. Flanders Jr.

Why I’m Running for Election to the U.S. Senate:

Like many of you, I’m frustrated with the hyper-partisanship and career politicians in Washington D.C. who are unable to work together to solve the problems that beset America and Rhode Island. A new approach is needed — a real climate change in our nation’s capital — one that entrusts citizen legislators to get the job done rather career politicians who are mostly looking to feather their owns nests. I want to fight for and advocate on behalf of hardworking Rhode Islanders, small businesses, and their most pressing day-to-day interests, instead of pontificating on issues that, while significant, do not represent the most immediate concerns of Rhode Islanders.

I come from a humble background that has enabled me to better represent the needs of Rhode island’s citizens, many of whom, like the family I come from, live paycheck to paycheck. I have worked hard my whole life to support my family and give back to the Rhode Island community that has given me so many opportunities to succeed and to live a rewarding life.

I consider myself lucky to have had the chance to become a living embodiment of the American dream – someone who started his working career as a garbageman and, through education and hard work, has been privileged to serve the people of Rhode Island in myriad ways, including as a Justice on its highest court. I want Rhode Islanders, young and old, to have the same educational and working opportunities as I did, so they too can experience, as I have, their own version of the American dream right here in Rhode Island.
