It would be impossible to pick which event was the most popular during Winsor Hill Elementary School’s recent fun-filled and family oriented Harvest Night.
Some people will say the biggest hit of the night were the teacher competitions, clever creations that reigned supreme throughout the well-maintained Johnston school.
Moreover, teachers like Mrs. Gadjowski, Ms. Harwood, Mrs. Peter, Mrs. Petrucci, Mrs. Toppi and Ms. Pingitore were great sports and the children filled the Winsor Hill School gym with cheers during the Donut-on-a-String event as well as a Pumpkin Sweep.
In the end, Mrs. Peters won the Donut-on-a-String event, which featured teachers competing again each other eating a donut on a strong with no hands.
“The competition in the Pumpkin Sweep was fierce,” Gina Schino, a Winsor Hill PTSO member, said. “It was Mrs. Gadjowski powering her way to the finish and sweeping her way to victory.”
Schino, in fact, may have had the best title for the annual Harvest Night, saying: “This event offered lots and lots of activities for the students and their families. There was even a pre-pumpkin carving contest and there were themed vehicles everywhere.”
Themed-vehicles? One that stood out was a sparkling bicycle which was donated especially for the Harvest Night by members of the Johnston School Committee and presented by Lauren Garzone, who has found and taken time during recent years to participate in a number of Winsor Hill in-school and post-school activities.
Garzone presented the bicycle to Ibrahim Jadama, who had the winning raffle ticket.
The night also included Trunk or Treat and along with the themed-vehicles there were Pac Man, Spookyville and Candyland. The night also featured an old-fashioned horse-drawn hay ride which the students and their parents really enjoyed.
People were also impressed, Schino and other PTSO officials noted, that “there were over 70 jack-o-lanterns that were creatively carved by Winsor Hill students” with Mrs. Farone’s Fourth Grade Class taking home the honors.
The annual Harvest Night, which many people said keeps getting bigger and better with each year, also featured the highly-popular face painting crafts, photo session and inflatable slide.
“Thank you to all who came out to support the Winsor Hill community at this favorite event,” said Schino. “What a special night”
Schino also issued a “huge thank you” to the High Steppin’ Dance Academy that entertained young and old alike and energized everyone in attendance withy great dance moves and tumbling.
