The Johnston Senior Center played host to its first-ever wine and paint night on Tuesday, welcoming more than 30 aspiring artists to relax and produce a masterpiece.
Cherry Hill Manor director of marketing Loraine DiLorenzo – a painter with several decades of experience – led the class and provided tips for attendees as they ran their brushes across their canvasses.
DiLorenzo has been running a painting class for six years now, but said “these are fun things to do on a bigger scale.”
“I’ve been able to paint all my life. I’m not really formally trained. Just enjoy doing it … [It] just makes me very, very happy,” DiLorenzo said.
Assistant Director Millie Santilli said the event was so popular that the center had to turn people away. She and center coordinator Denise Bell, each taking breaks to look down at their painting and follow DiLorenzo’s direction, said there’s potential for another wine and paint night in August.
“We’ve always wanted to do this,” Santilli said. “We’ve always wanted to do a wine and painting party … Loraine, of course she’s so talented, she came up with the idea, and said, ‘I can do one at your facility if you want.’ It’s a fundraiser for us and she supplied all the canvases and she supplied everything.”
Bringing in money for the center was the main driver behind the event, but Bell joked there was another reason as well.
“We like to drink wine,” she said with a laugh.
