Trump should step into my shoes

Posted

To the Editor:

I'm appalled at Donald Trump's proposed budget that would slash billions of dollars from social programs, claiming they are a waste of taxpayer dollars. He would use part of that money to help fund his pet project: the wall on the U.S./Mexican border.

While other presidents got along fine living in one residence, the White House, Trump finds it necessary to occupy three, which is costing taxpayers millions of dollars more for additional security.

While Trump criticized President Obama for taking too many vacations, it is Trump who seems unable to spend more than two weeks in Washington before flying off to Florida with his whole entourage and costing millions more. Talk about wasting taxpayer dollars!

Particularly distressing is Trump's intention to cut funding from "Meals on Wheels.” As a volunteer of almost 25 years delivering meals to the elderly and disabled, I know first-hand the challenges these people face every day. For many this will be their only meal of the day. For some I will be the only person they will see all day. I would like Donald Trump to take some time from his golfing game and accompany me on my route so he could witness the consequences his budget would create.
