Thornton Parents Academy celebrates successful school year

Posted

Thornton Elementary students, their families and their teachers held a huge celebration last Thursday at the school to commemorate all of the children’s successes during the last year. It was the fifth Parent Academy workshop held at the school this year, with the previous four focusing on topics from making math manageable, literacy, a family health expo, and social emotional workshops.

“I think it’s very important that you realize that this is all because of Title 1 status. We are full school Title 1, and those funds help us do extra things for families and students,” said Principal Louise Denham.

With help from parent involvement coordinator Sherri LaFazia and other volunteers, an incredible turn out of well over 150 people enjoyed dinner and enjoyed the school’s annual art show, which showcased works of art from each grade level. The fourth and fifth grade student also played several music selections on their recorders, and each classroom also featured students’ work over the year.
