The Park is back – big time

Posted

If last Saturday’s performance of Chris Botti and his band is any indication of what is in store this October at Cranston’s Park Theatre, we are in for some big time entertainment.

Botti and his talented musicians had the nearly sold-out audience on their feet, cheering him, his band and four guests that blew the roof off the historic building. He even brought an unsuspecting 12-year-old on stage to play drums and told the security guard to sit down and enjoy the show as he brought his trumpet into the orchestra.

Botti has shared his talents at the White House, the Coliseum and New York City’s Blue Room, in addition to traveling to numerous venues around the world. Cranston was lucky to book him and his talented musicians for one of the most varied, entertaining shows I have seen in a long time.

Looking ahead to October, the Park has booked Johnny Lang for a return visit on Friday, October 6 at 8 p.m., followed by the double bill of Stephen Stills and Judy Collins the following evening at 8 p.m. And to complete the weekend, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will play on Sunday, October 8 at 7 p.m. This is the most excitement seen at Rolfe Square in a long time.

Catch your breath, because four nights later, Thursday, October 12 at 8 p.m. Musiq Soul Child will perform live with his band, with opening act Ray Greene. The following evening, Friday October 13, the fabulous Wailers will be on stage at 8 p.m.

Pink Floyd fans will want to be there Saturday, Oct. 14 at 8:00 p.m. for Classic Albums Live “Dark Side of the Moon.” Four time Grammy-nominated saxophonist, Boney James, returns to the Park on Sunday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m.

We are so pleased to see a resurgence of diverse and eclectic performances at this beautiful Cranston theatre, which has continued to keep its prices within reach and offer classy, big time entertainers up close and personal in a comfortable setting. And there’s free parking, too.

For reservations, call the box office at 467-7275, or go online at www.parktheatreri.com.
