A total of six red, white and green balloons, which were attached to a pair of signs at the entrances to The Bridge at Cherry Hill, were blowing in a swift breeze early Tuesday afternoon and seemingly caught a lot of people’s attention.
The signs, meanwhile, simply read: “Open House from 1 to 3 p.m. – Please stop in for a zeppole.”
Inside the award-winning assisted living community, there was a table dressed with a red and white covering that served as a special surface for a number of those Italian delicacies known as the zeppole. The treats are mostly reserved for the annual Italian holiday known as St. Joseph’s Day.
It doesn’t matter, however, whether it’s an Italian, Irish or American celebration – the highly respected staff at The Bridge at Cherry Hill, headed by Executive Director Maryann Grace and sales/community relations specialist Jen Burns, always has a special flair.
On Tuesday, the decorated table inside the main lobby featured a large tray of freshly made zeppole from executive chef Marvin Carter’s kitchen. His crew created them by deep frying dough and forming four-inch pieces of golden pastry, which were filled with cannoli-style pastry cream and topped with powdered sugar and a red maraschino cherry.
“These zeppole are for everyone – our residents, guests and staff,” Burns said.
