That’s entertainment: Twenty years ago

Timothy Crowe, Anne Scurria, Stephen Berenson, Mauro Hantman, Robert J. Colonna, and Jenn Shulte starred in George Bernard Shaw’s “Mrs. Warren’s Profession,” directed by Brian McEleny, at Trinity Rep.
“Footloose” was at the Providence Performing Arts Center. PPAC also brought back “Gone With the Wind” on the big screen.
L’Attitude (now Revolution) got me hooked on their “Guilty as Sin B.L.T. Located in Pawtuxet Village, it is still one of the best restaurants in the state.
Edward Norton and Brad Pitt starred in Fight Club.
Brown presented Feydaeu’s “A Flea in Her Ear,” with an extraordinary set by John Lucas.
Grand Buffet opened on Route 2 in Warwick where all-you-can-eat buffets cost $9.95 and $10.95, with a special lobster buffet on Sundays and holidays for $13.95. Lunch buffets were only $5.95 and $6.95.
The United States Navy Band gave a free concert at CCRI’s Warwick campus.

Forty years ago

It was the first anniversary of the Ocean State Performing Arts Center (now PPAC.) Neil Simon’s “Chapter Two” opened the Broadway series.
Remember the Hillsgrove Country Club? Not a golf club but a skating rink next to the airport, where a family of four could skate all night long on Tuesdays and Thursdays for $3.50.
Remember Pickwicks restaurant, formerly Ballards on the corner of Peck and Pine in Providence? I wrote: Restaurants in downtown Providence change as often as traffic lights.
10 was the big movie at Warwick Mall Cinema, while Starting Over and Apocalypse Now were at Seekonk Showcase. (Warwick Showcase was yet to be built). Midland Mall was offering “football widows” two-for-one admissions Monday nights.
Al Pacino starred in And Justice For All at Warwick Mall Cinema, while Meteor starring Sean Connery and Natalie Wood were at the Showcase and Time After Time was at Garden City Cinema. Foreigner was at the Civic Center and the Pousette-Dart Band was at Vets.
Willie Nelson was at Stepping Stone Ranch in Escoheag. Tickets were $6.
“Brigadoon” was at Brown. “The Time of Your Life” was at Barker Playhouse. “The Tales of Hoffman” was at Providence Opera Theatre.
Richard Jenkins and George Martin were in “Born Yesterday” at Trinity.
Remember yo-yo artist Larry Saco? He did his thing at the South Main St. Harvest Festival.
