There was a “Green Out” last Friday morning at Nicholas A. Ferri Middle School in Johnston.

“Students on Team 6 White wore green in honor of National Mental Healthy Awareness Month,” explained Natalie Verardo, who is a special education teacher at Ferri. “We also had a student address her classmates.”

Verardo said that Gabriella Pascale (above), a sixth-grader at Ferri Middle School, spoke about the challenges of living with bipolar disorder and the importance of not letting it define her life. Students were inspired by Gabby’s confidence and bravery.

Following Pascale’s speech, which she did inside the school’s gymnasium, Team 6 White enjoyed a walk from Ferri Middle School to Johnston War Memorial Park and then returned for lunch.
