Antique Fire Truck Show

On Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be an Antique Fire Truck Show, sponsored by the RI Antique Fire Apparatus Society, at Johnston Memorial Park, located at 1583 Hartford Ave.

Admission is free, yet they will be collecting unwrapped toys to be distributed to children in need during the holidays. There will be burgers, hot dogs, soft drinks – all provided by the Providence Canteen. Entertainment will be provided by Joe Vingi of Pleasure Sounds Unlimited. Exciting programming for children at the Mohr Library

A Sing-Along with Mr. Rowland for all ages with a grown-up. Dance and sing along with family favorites and best loved holiday songs on Tuesdays, Sept. 11 Nov.20 and Dec. 11 at the Mohr Library.

Toddler Time— stories, songs and fingerplay for babies and toddlers with a grown-up. Ages newborn to can enjoy time at the library on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. from Sept. 18 through Oct. 16.

Preschool Storytime— stories, songs and fingerplay for children ages 2 1/2 to 5 y. o. with a grown-up will be held on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. from Sept. 19 through Oct. 17.

Halloween Storytimes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers when children are encouraged to come in costume and caregivers may bring snacks or drinks if they wish will be held on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31 at 10:30 a.m.

Science Club for Grades K-3 will focus on experimenting with luminescence and glow in the dark fun on Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. with Registration Required by calling 231-4980 x5 and on Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. the club will focus on building a rocket and racing it against other participants.

On Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m., children will be able to build a catapult! Try building the different models of catapults to find which works best!

On the second Thursdays: Sept. 13, Oct. 11, Nov. 8, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. come build with 10 000 plus Lego bricks, donated by Lego Systems. Ages 5 and up with an adult. No need to register.

Drop-In Family Crafts will be held every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning on Sept. 8 through the end of June. This will feature several self-directed projects for children and parents to do together. (Craft Programs are not appropriate for children under 3 as small parts might present a hazard.)

MS Dream Center Wine & Dine Extravaganza

The MS Dream Center of Rhode Island and Accessible Rhode Island will host a Wine & Dine Extravaganza on Sept. 8 at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. Proceeds from the event will benefit the organization, which is dedicated to benefiting individuals with multiple sclerosis and other disabilities.

The event, sponsored by Bob Gasbarro’s Oaklawn Liquors, features a wine and beer tasting, along with a variety of food from some of Rhode Island’s best-known restaurants. The event will also include entertainment, raffles, live auction, a 50/50, and a mystery wine and dine pairing. Tickets are $60 each or 10 for $500. To purchase tickets, visit www.msdreamcenter.org.

33rd Cranston Greek Festival

For more than two generations, the Cranston Greek Festival has been held the on the church grounds, the weekend after Labor Day. The Festival marks the “Official End of Summer in Rhode Island.” This year it will be held on Sept. 7 through Sept. 9. More than 25,000 people will visit the Cranston Greek Festival over the course of this fabulous three-day event of Food, Fun, Greek Dancing and Culture. The 33rd Annual “3-Day” Cranston Greek Festival will be held at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation on the parish grounds at 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Route 5, Cranston.

23rd Annual Artisans Steak Fry

The RI Shriners will host the 23rd Annual Artisan’s Steak Fry on Sept. 23 with a social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner served at 7 p.m. Tickets are $22 per person which includes a delicious Steak Dinner! There will be a cash bar and the event calls for casual dress. Tickets are on sale now and must be purchased in advance by calling 467-7100. The event will be held in The Imperial Room at One Rhodes Place, One Rhodes Place, Cranston.

Outdoor Church Bazaar

RI Pagan Pride Day 2018

Johnston Historical Society

Their museum barn is open Tuesdays from 9 to 11am and 6:30 to 8:30pm; Thursdays, 2 to5 p.m.; or by appointment, for those who would like to visit the museum or examine the society's collection of printed materials. Just in case, call ahead to confirm they are there. Dues are $20 per year for an individual, $30 per year for a family (two adults and children under 18) membership. The purpose of the JHS is to identify, preserve and promote the history of our town. It is located at 101 Putnam Pike in Johnston and can be reached by calling 231-3380.

Garden City to Celebrate 70 years

Garden City Center in Cranston will celebrate its 70th year on Sept. 26 at the Gazebo from 6 to 9 p.m. Enjoy tasty treats from Garden City Center restaurants and relive the older days with their documentary and picture yourself in historical photos. At the Mohr for Teens

Teen Arts & Crafts Club will meet every Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. Love arts & crafts? Join in each week to make something new and express yourself. Senior Guild Open to All

Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. There will be a short meeting, followed by bingo, refreshments and a raffle. All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join. Membership is $12 for the year. Teen Task Force

Teen Task Force seeking members. Do you want to show the community how teens can make a positive impact? Join the Mohr Library’s Teen Task Force to help build a better world. Become part of this teen-driven group advocating for the library and for the teens in our community. Plan monthly teen programs, organize weekly activities & crafts, give suggestions for new material purchases, initiate teen participation, and earn volunteer hours. Participate in bi-weekly meetings and teen-led activity benefiting the teens, the community and causes of your choice.
